hi, smile.gif

lightweight flywheels are good but it depends on what kind of driveing you do,,

i list pro's and con's so you can make up your own mind!

pro's

improved acceleration

improved gearchanges(as the revs are easier to control)

improved engine braking

con's

jerky ride due to sensetive throttle

worse fuel economy

lumpy tickover

seems to loose momentum very easly on hills(need to accerate noticebly to mantain speed)

engine easier to bog down from lights

clutch's don't last as long (as you have to slip it more to get the car moving)

thanks neil i think i will just be going for a stock one then

but it does make a big difference

0-60 in around 4.6/5.0secs just with the flywheel alone!!!!

now why did you have to go and say that now its not a stock one lol

thanks neil

ANYTIME

Semco which clutch are you going for?

hi i am thinking of going for this one

UAS Modified sports clutch with 40% increased clamping pressure and 6 finger cinted bronze (Ceremetalic) button clutch plate. Grips well lasts a long time and not savage on take up.

Supplied with new thrust bearing. Anti Burst Casting (Nodular Iron) pressure plate.

from www.300zx.com.au

it works out at £262 plus shipping

thanks

errr might have to disagree

my mates got a lightened flywheel in his car, and his onboard mpg calculator thingy has registered an increase in miles to the gallon, not reduction as stated above

Look on TT net there is a couple of suppliers offering a good deal if you buy a clutch flywheel combo from them. Fidanza flywheel and sprung hub RPS 6 puck seems to be the way to go. Thats what I got after speaking to a lot of people in the US.

They say the low speed driveability isnt a problem on the Z and after a couple of days you are used to it and it feels like normal.

I havn't fitted mine yet so I dont know for sure but im gonna give it a go.

Paul -thought you said they were dangerous ?

hi,

lightning a standard flywheel is VERY dangerous

but buying an aluminum (lightened)flywheel is not dangerous

why do you say that it's dangerous to lighten a stock flywheel? Are they more likely to break if you grind a few mm off of them? 23 lbs. sounds like too damn much, and they wear down anyway with time... so why not just help time out a bit.

BTW, what's a safe amount to take off before the stock flywheel becomes worrisome--in need of replacement?

BTW, is there anything wrong with using a stock flywheel with a performance clutch. I just purchased a Centerforce Stage III Dual Friction

hey, it's heat dissipation on the flywheel, right? that's the prob?

hi,

heat disipation is one factor for making lightened stock flywheels explode, but also shock loadings, during the life of a flywheel you should only really skim the minimum amount of material off the face, maybe 1-1.5mm as a general rule, removing this amount is hardly going to achieve noticeble gains where an aluminum flywheel is half the weight of a stock flywheel at around 12 lbs

having looked at the zed flywheel there is no obvious area that you could remove material(eerrrr...safely)i.e.no extra counter weights,no extra material bigger than where the clutch fits(sort of around the out side)and if you skim the face right down bring you into another problem of the clutch arm having to be moddified to get back the clutch stroke,so in my eyes it would be safer(and cheaper especially if things go wrong)to fit an aluminum flywheel,,

Lightweight flywheel is the way to go.

No problems on the Zed due to engines size.

Put a lightweight flywheel on say a 4 pot motor and yes it can be a pain to drive.

On the Zed no problems, just loads of gain.

lightwheight flywheel has been ordered should be fitted by the end of the month

just as a matter of interest, how many 300s do you know of that have had flywheels explode?

i have owned one for 3 years and have been a member of this forum and the ttnet, and have yet to hear of first hand experience of flywheels exploding?

About how much do lightweight flywheels cost ?

im paying about £250 for mine but its a super lightweight
