Hi Guys,

Just curious as to what is the widest tires you could fit on to a 300zx at the rear? I realise its all dependant on the alloy width etc. I thinking along the lines of grip and bring able to put the power down, rather than any affect on top speed etc.

Cheers!

ive got 265's on the rear of mine and they have a slight stretch, im sure someone on here was running 305's at one point, may even have been 325's

I got 245s lmao. Proper wide! lol

Could do with wider though, never be to wide with a Zed. Roll the arches out, sure you can get 305s in there!

if its for looks then you can probably fit alot wider than 255 if your wheel's width and offset are correct, which means it'll allow you alot of space for wide wheels

but if you want it for performance then really wide wheels might not be suitable, they can reduce slip angle and can cause the car to understeer.

Mine are 255's but on a 12" rim, I replied in jest... :p

I run 265s on my old wheels and it gripped very well!

Baz, your car looks mental mate :thumbup1:

quite like your rear arches are they ZG flares?

Thanks! They are the JUN style arches

great stuff, would there be an issue with running 305's? cause i hear some horror stories of z back ends coming out, so planning to get the maximum grip out of it.

Do you need to make any adjustments for 285+ to fit? and does it make a difference with the speedo?

the car is very controllable despite being a barge, if you don't give it any power, it'll just understeer - it's the 200sx which are lethal at any speed lol

i'm running 235/60/16's on the rears on the jspec rim, the speedo is correct at least, and oversize tyres will be the new thing lmao

what power do you have / want?

285 is about the max without arch work (but you need the right offset wheel)

I run 305 R888's which seem a wide tire compared to other brands, a there's a lot of arch work involved combined with a right offset wheel. Those with wide arch can got up to around the 355 mark

Well i will be looking for around 360-380 bhp. I wouldnt really be pushing big figures. I will be looking to do basic mods so that i can get the best out of stock internals.

But i want really good grip on wet conditions!

265-285 will be plenty, more important to buy a decent brand tire

Great thanks for that, would someone mind explaining how the offsets etc work? As i am guessing i cant just buy any alloy i see online. I am a bit of a newbie at this!

I have at the moment 235/40/18 on the front and 265/35/18 at the rear

but im so temted to go 255/35/18 front and 275 or if tyre man says ok then 285/35/18

rears. I think then still get a bit tyre roll and shouldnt have to touch arches.

But front aint that important is it, too fat tyres at the front wont really give any advantage would it now? probably slow you down? am i right in thinking that?

dont supose it whould just had a silly thought in my head if im going upto 285/35/18 on rear then my silly thought was maybe to bo a little more at front to even things out more..maybe thought if i stick with 235/35/18 at the front then putting 285/35/18 on rear would or could handling issuse ,? dont know.

I have 275s at the rear - no problems other than a bit of a rub when I reverse up into my driveway. No arch work done and lowered 20mm-ish.

im no expert, there are those on here that will know far more on that subject however i would of thought if you have too much grip at the rear in comparison to the front you would get understeer. how much relivance that would have to your driving style i dont know.

May i ask what do you have on the front.

Ive rolled the rear arches, but only because the offset of my wherls arent designed for a z. They were from a toyota supra.
