I hear the battery can not be left in the car over a long period. Say with an alarm draining the power as they dont last long and once they are flat you cant recharge it. Is this correct? If so are we talking a few hours before its flat

whats the crank/load amps ?

normal dry cell can not have High current loads ...

look for a Deep cycle dry batt

Hi bud for what i can read it is a deep cycle.

•680 cranking amps for 5 seconds

•595 cranking amps for 10 seconds

•525 cranking amps for 20 seconds

•17 amp hours

•Short circuit current over 1800A

•25 minute reserve capacity with 25amp load

•Female brass terminal w/M6 SS bolt

•Length 7 1/16"

•Width 3"

•Height 6 9/16"

•Weighs less than 15 lbs

•Designed and built to last up to 3 times as long

Some batteries provide enormous cranking power. Others, deep cycle reserve power. The revolutionary Enersys Odyssey PC680 battery is designed to do both. How is this possible? The answer begins with flat plates made of 99.99 percent pure virgin lead - not lead alloy. Pure lead plates can be made thinner, so we can fit more of them in the battery. More Enersys Oyssey PC680 battery plates mean more plate surface area. And that means more power upto twice as much as conventional batteries.

This extreme combination of power and performance makes Enersys Odyssey PC680 battery perfect for a range of applications, including automotive/LTV, marine, commercial, and powersports.

it's slightly more powerful than mine. Works fine however, do';t expect multiple cranks out of it when you have problems. I found that it would struggle to start if left for more than 2 weeks, and if you have a drain somewhere then only a few days.

Make sure you have a good alternator as well to make it charge well between starts, I've just ordered a High Output alternator to make up for the electric fan sapping so much current

What are the standard and high output alternator amperage values?

Thanks for the info everyone...Ive bought the battery now jusst looking for a decent bracket and the best place to buy the cable?

You are going to need some hefty cable for that extra distance aren't you? Are you taking it under the car through the plastic brake line carrier?

thats a good idea eggs!! recon a 70mm cable should be big enough

Lol, might have to speak to the national grid people for some of that:lol:

I've been looking at 415 amp cable I've not seen anything higher than that at the moment. I'll be running inside the car as I've found what seems like a good route.

Will find out tomorrow mate. We have made a custom battery plate so its possible to bolt the battery down safely. Will be installing the cables tomorrow

  • 4 weeks later...

How did you get on with this then mate. I have an odyssey dry cell, cant remember which, and an electric fan. Was fine in summer when i was using it but like you say, 2 weeks stood and its dead. Just have a couple of questions. Were did you get your high output alternator and what charger do you use to charge/condition your battery. Them questions to anyone, just looking for some advice.

Cheers

Sorry to dig up an old thread but kind of still in the same boat and think I've permanently killed the odessey battery due to letting it run flat for to long and never got round to running a fan isolator. So I'm looking at probably a standard (cheaper) battery and putting it in the boot. As the battery tray space under the bonnet is half used by an oil catch tank.

So the questions, can I rescue my dead odessey battery. If not which is the best 1 to get for the boot and which cable is best. And do people run it inside or outside.

My own fault for letting it run down, but don't have charger and had a busy year, and the car ended up stood to long.

Any help welcome.

Will say though, had no problems with the battery while I was using the car regularly. Powered the car and fan etc no problems.

Cheers

Danny
