Ok, been thinking that since the 300 is in need of paint and i have a few ideas i want to try out that i would start prepping the car. Now my idea was just to do what needs to be done and primer it, but since it's gonna be maybe after xmas before i have the cash for a respray i thought i could use satin black which i can get from work cheap as chips.

Now this would defo only be a temp job so i can get any imperfections sorted and also do a few mods while im at it. Question is if i use satin black and spray the whole car when it comes to the full respray ( done by a pro ) will it just be a case of keying up the satin black or will it react with the paint going on top?

Cheers in advance

did you know you can get a full respray from a club member for around £800 ?

Depends on the type of paint the bodyshop use, if you are using a rattle can and the garage use 2k then it would need rubbing down past the primer and re painted.

If you have a bodyshop in mind, speak to them first and they will advise you , although i suspect to guarantee a good finish, they will want to prime it.

Will speak to the guy at work, he is a painter to trade and his work has graced the front covers of many a mag ( only wish i could convince him to pick up the gun again ).

Sadly im up in scotland, so would probs cost more in travel etc. Plus there are a couple of guys up this way that are pretty good and not too bad on cost. Was just a thought as i would like to tackle a few things but im no expert so will take me time to get it right. Least that way if its satin black it looks not too bad if i go for a drive etc.

The trouble with some primers is that they are porous, so would not keep out water moisture say weeks ahead of the main basecoat.

Mine has been in two lots of primer in the past two years, but will be re primed before base coat at the same time.

Spray cans dont have a wide enough spray pattern or depth of paint/layer as a spray gun has and you will see streaks in a larger panel. Weigh up the cost of rattler cans compared to paint and i think you will find you are better off putting the money towards the final respray.

Mikey Bean bought some satin black cans cheap and has sprayed his till he eventually gets round to doing it properly lol

I can get a hold of rattle cans no issue and really cheap ( work in a factors and get everything at cost ). Will speak to the guy at work plus the guy i think is painting it see what they suggest.

If your going to do a full respray soon, why not leave it as it is until you do?

It was more because i want to do some body mods and thought it would be better going satin black than running about with some bits in primer.

I see said the blind man.

Why not hire a commpressor and do a quick job yourself until the proper job?

Tbh i have always wanted to try painting with a gun but havent had the chance to do it, plus my garage isnt big enough. I may speak to the painter i know and see if we can work something out if i do all the prep and have a bash a spraying under his supervison. Luckily he works on his own but has a massive unit so plenty of space.

Which member Ryan? That is a really good price.
