hia! fellas

im looking for the cheapest solution for fixing my water leak i think its coming from the water pump having coverd 89,000 miles its started to drip!! i have seen a few posts but the question is can i change the pump without touching the cambelt??? or is it a easy job to do the belt since its all stripped down ready??? also the toplinks need replacing due to frightning knoking sound from under the car during steering, have changed the tension rods a few months back!!! cheers fellas

P.S im on a shoe string budget cos ive just bought a house with a 35 year mortgage so im gonna b skint !!

there's a plastic dealy over the tires... if it's loose, the tires can hit it, making what sounds like a knocking, rubbing, almost grinding sound

check those first

For the knocking sound, check the pivot bolt for the tie rods is fully tightened- sometimes it isn't and it makes some very worrying noises wink.gif

TBH I would do the cambelt while you are down to the water pump - the water pump is the last part to come off b4 the belt wink.gif

Get your wife or girlfriends small make up mirror and look under the top water hose connection to the engine with the engine hot. You might need a torch. Look for wetness - if any then could be one of your by-pass hoses to the cylinder heas has gone. You can actually change these without taking off the rad or cowling as I found out. Gets your nuckles skint tho.

The water drips off the bottom of the engine either way and looks like water pump.

Also if water pump then you might feel play in the fan or it might be noisy.

The cam belt should be replaced every 54k miles. If yours hasn't I would get it done, not cheap but a whole lot less than an engine rebuild.

...I've just replaced my water pump and you have to go right down to the belt, so if the belt hasen't been replaced recently then do it at the same time. I replaced my belt 6 months ago and thought that the water pump looked ok, so didn't change it - you live and learn.

good luck
