Hi peeps,

I'm nearing the end of receiving parts from z1 to finish my engine bottom end rebuild, I'm told I should get new turbos while the engine is out.

Do I get the new ball bearing technology or get the housing/impellers replaced (not rebuilding) and use current turbo housing (so good as a new turbo), I've heard trouble with the 360 degree thrust bearings and even a mate has has two failed ones of these from Turbo Technics, going out of my mind of what to do??

I need a four bolt solution and a 2.5" downpipe.

Are these ok?

Thanks.

I would base the turbos on how highly you are going with the bhp plans.

Turbo reliability is down to oil changing, use and how well built they are.

Any new Garrett turbos should be fine for a long time mate.

depends on how big your pockets are ...

dont know where u been reading but Standard thrust bearings and 360* are used in most turbos these days

and are very reliable and cope with Lack of reg oil changes opposed to BB tubs that need reg oil change's

Rebuild standard tubs with 360* thrust bearing £500>600 Normal power ( 350hp'ish)

Hybrid tubs all most T28 inc 360* £800>1.2k (380>450hp)

BB turbos up to 1.5k>2k (450hp+)

I think I may be to blame about 360degree turbos, I told him I had a set of turbo technics stage 2, they started smoking sent them off to turbo rebuilder think it was turbo dynamics, or someone like that.

Put them back on, they failed again was out of warranty on the time they had been on but had done only few thousand miles,

so I worry about buying another set, I said get something differant because what happened to me.

But it could have been bad luck for me.

I'm gonna be rebuilding my engine too, me and oobumbumblebee doing them together, I want around 400bhp with has close to stock lag has possible, what turbos would be best.

Get hibrids best on price and with good perfomace

And less rafting about with oil lines and down pipes

can only speak for the places that i have used

Midland Turbos

Turbo dynamics

but there are about another 3 that car good as well

just go where the Rep & Price is right
