Hi All

This proposal results from the issues members on both sites have had and are ongoing in recent times with payments being made and goods not being sent or received. I am not pointing any fingers but I would like to set the scene.

Whilst neither club promotes sales by members, they do facilitate such activity by having a ‘For Sale’ thread that members can advertise on. The respective committees cannot escape this, and this is a way in which many members keep their Zeds on the road or add bits and pieces to their taste. Generally it works well.

However, if a member accepts money and then does not fulfil his/her/their side of the bargain the problems inevitably occur. The person having sent the money feels aggrieved, Committees get involved, it causes ill feeling all round, involves other members and is totally unproductive. Not what either site intended.

So, if each site is facilitating a sale, are they prepared to help smooth such sales ?

Why couldn’t each site have a escrow account, into which monies could be paid by purrchasers ? It could either be run as a bank account or in Paypal.

In that way, the money would be safe and could be passed to the supplier when the goods are received by the customer. The money would not be released from the account until the customer accepted the goods as described. The supplier would know the money was in the account and they could have it as soon as the customer had the goods.

I know and understand that it would cause some admin effort, but effort to ensure the smooth running of respective club surely is worthwhile ?

Isn’t the committee elected to run the club for its members ?

Answers on a postcard.......

The Committee has discussed what needs to be done and our TLO will have something to say very soon on how trading between members will be done. Thank you for your intreast but we are on top of it and can make our own decisions. I suggest you get your own house in order and we will deal with ours.

I am also a member on here and have suffered in the past

Another member from here has come over onto .net and posted up a huge thread about being ripped off.

All I'm doing is making a suggestion......

an issue could be that the buyer doesn't get round to informing anyone they have received the goods and then holding up payment, but I guess there could be a set period of say a week after a message is sent to to the buyer, if they don't respond, the money is passed on.

My postcard.....

This has been suggested many times over the clubs life but it always comes down to not really practicable

What if the buyer disapears for a month without saying theyre happy, how long can you keep the seller waiting

Also you would be asking the committee to make decisions between 2 members who dont agree on the definition of "as new" for example, both sold and purchased in good faith, but one of them has to be wrong. Would you want to make that call.

If i bought a saucer of milk, and 2 weeks later complained it was off, but the seller was adamant it was fresh when they sent it, who would you give the money to?

Selling a Metal container of wriggly things methinks, garunteed alive ( when sent)

Hi Vijay

Yes understood. That could work both ways. If the goods aren't received after a period of time then an email sent to the seller and then if no action still the the money is returned to the purchaser

That way no one loses, except perhaps a couple of quid in paypal charges but that's better than a wad of cash !

it wont work ... it will open the gates to more rip offs .. due to being sent "not received" then it would leave the club to be the go between and have to be in the fava of the seller

kinda how ebay works ....

i think a Sales template

Price

address

phone

Paypal Only ( not gift )

i know it wouldn't sort it out but its a step in the right direction

no matter how u deal with this users will all ways rip each other off u can not stop it regardless of what u do

One way to use the scheme would be for a club to insist that if it's holding the buyers money then goods must be sent with a tracking number to protect the seller.

I agree with the above, there could be problems with descriptions, but my suggestion is just s starter for 10 and seems to serving it's purpose.

I think a sales template is a great idea also as it would avoid any hold up of parts being available and transactions could be done alot smoother.

I will be interested to see what the proposal from the TLO is as my issue has not been addressed and is still ongoing now 46 days.

Yep a sales template is what we are looking at and the club is looking at one in particular which is for sale and would suit us. So if we go for this one Groover will let you know and this will make trading between members more safer.

IMO... 99% of trading on here goes smoothly, for the sake of the 1% that doesn't why mess up the rest and burden voluntary members of the committee, not just to pick sides of a dispute but to babysit every transaction that takes place? I agree that the template idea may smooth out some of the disputes (although i find that advertising on, for example, zclub.net a bit of a pain and too 'red tape ish'! Maybe because I'm used to the simplicity of advertising on here)

Very true mate but more and more people are breaking there cars and lately a few members deals have gone wrong. These are all private deals but as a caring club we want to try and sort it out so time and money will be put into it for our members benefit.

this is a template from another very Large forum that i use

if non of the box's are filed out correctly IE Price and Pics it will not upload

and what u need to do is any sales threads that do not have a pic when first listed .. should be delete regardless

forumsalestempate.jpg

Also , a lot of people buy stuff and don't get round to fitting it for a while ( or even years) i have bought stuff before ( here and ebay and elsewhere) that looked fine when it arrived ( and i would have oked payment or given positive feedback) but when i went to fit it sometime later it was broken / missing parts / not the right part etc

Or worse you fit the part, give positive and it breaks the next day

We discussed a sales template a few months ago when we had previous deals go awry, we are searching for an appropriate template for the forum software along with the new rides section, which will be implemented very soon.

A deal between two members is simply that and the club acts as a channel for the sale to happen, but accepts no responsibility for the said deal and as part of the AUP, is accepted by a member when entering into a sale or purchase. We have limited sources to rectify a deal gone wrong, but try our best to resolve matters.

As a club, it is not tenable to create an Escrow account or have any financial dealings outside the clubs remit, due to the nature of the clubs standing and financial implications it may entail.

But... as it appears that problems have become more frequent with trading we will have no alternative to implement a sales template, which will be quite stringent and likely to put some people off trading, but if it helps resolve poor trading then so be it.

Remember that there is still nothing to prevent a member giving false information/contact details, but is another step forward into safeguarding the likelihood of it happening again.

Cheers

Graham

As I have said all along, Paypal without gift is the way to go because it gives protection to both parties!

Agreed. Buyer pays the fee. I know that this would upset some members on here but I can't see any other way.

to what i seen and guessing 1>2%

Cant be much higher than that id imagine.

Personally easier option, anything over £100, stick it on ebay, and stick the ebay add up in here, that covers everyone then.

i'm with vodkashots on this.. if you're spending hundreds of pounds on a private sale, then go pick the stuff/see it in person. if you were spending hundreds buying a car, you'd go look at it first in most cases/pick it up. yes, people should be honest, and reputable, but the truth is, not everyone is!

at the end of the day, this forum is not ebay.. but it does try to provide the option to buy/sell. this works 99% of the time. as a guide, maybe we need a maximum 2 week delivery period unless stated otherwise, or the member selling is banned.

lets face it, if the stuff was advertised in the local newspaper, you wouldnt give someone the money without having the product in your hands. you buy/sell at your own risk imo. you shouldnt treat a forum board any differently unless willing to take the risk.

Any 2 members who do not want to use the trading template can of course at there own free will use the PM facility to buy and sell goods...Just thought its worth a mention before the "civil rights" flags start getting waved:laugh:

i think this is a crap idea, this place is a car forum and it only has the selling part as a sideline for its members to use responsibly, it isnt a forum dedicated to sales such as ebay, the implications into holding peoples money and parts can be immense, so many problems can occur and cause even more problems than we have

the only problems we have had recently have came from members holding a position on another forum, one has been sorted and the other is being dealt with and discussed, we as a club can only do so much, we cant take legal action and both parties ATM are communicating best they can

i think this thread was only brought up to yet again promote the fact their may be another forum, i think most of the members here know about it now and its upto those members to choose wether to use other forum's, its doesnt need to be forced upon them by keep having these threads, im not sure you have the members interest's at heart and only have your own and your forums interests in sight

if you want to have this in place then you have a forum to do it on, it didnt need to be brought up here in the public forum, at best you could have pm'd a comittee member or our TLO groover

oh and having seen a comment on the other forum i doubt you as a chairman should be in a position to post this thread

your words:

Well come back safe and sound from the Afghans and take your mates round to pay him a visit !

if ive sold anytrhing on any forums ive always insisted on pick up only, obviously with a car being broken it can be a bit harder but its for the best

vodkashots suggested the best thing by saying put it on ebay and link it here, then all things will be sold via ebay and can be protected by its rules
