Hi guys

Just wondering what fuel you would recommend using in a zed. Do they run better on super unleaded or is it safe to use standard?

I know with the 350z (my bro's car) that it states in the handbook to use super unleaded or it will retard the ecu/power.

Thanks

The UK ones are ok on normal 95ron unleaded but the JDM's really need 97+ to get the best out of them. Saying that though, I only use super-unleaded in my UK zed (not that it moves much lol)

I run my uk on standard unleaded and seems ok, had an evo import and that ran like shit if I put normal unleaded, I understand that uk are set to run on 95 but Japan has higher octane on their petrol so messes with the running if ran on less mate

Mine ran fine on sainsburys super till I had it chipped and then I didn't seem to run as well so I switched to v power. You can collect shell points!!!

Strange, I can only go by the MPG (no noticeable difference in power) and found the Tesco stuff crap. It seems to like BP Ultimate best.

I find that too Dave - barely any difference (normally) between regular u/l or super and so on......

......although I do find that V-power gives me around 10% more miles per tank - although TBH I don't care about fuel economy else I would not have a 3.0 twin turbo and a 308bhp 3.5 v6!!

But in the height of summer (I mean when we actually have temperatures of 26 degrees and over) I do find that the 300zx prefers V-power to regular u/l on those exceptionally hot days!!

Richard:biggrin:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Ok cheers for the info guys, i use super in my bike, so going on what you've all said I'm going to use super in the zed once i have it.

If you keep running a JDM import on 95, then eventually it will start to splutter and lose some power and economy. When I first bought mine I had to fill it up with 95, no decent service stations around, and it felt like I hit a brick wall when I approached 70mph. On V-Power, it's smooth as anything.

When I drove 150 miles to Stockport, I tried 95, and it used practically £40 worth and that was at 56mph behind a truck all the way - on the way back, Tesco 99 I used £30 with a heavy right foot...

Previous owner always used BP Ultimate, so havn't changed, but when the engine is sorted may run some experiments on V-Power- Ultimate and momentum, although didn't realise Tesco did there version of high octane.

V-power for me or tesco momentum. Previous owner told me the mpg was crap but I asked what fuel he put in it and he only ever used asda standard.

Thanks for all the input guys, the car is a UK model with a few mods, but will be sticking to Tesco's Momentum99 as that's the nearest petrol station for me (plus the fact I work at tesco too lol) and the cheapest in the area.

the difference between normal & super is mearly a resistance to knock (det) - super unleaded has a higher resistance so it shouldnt really cause running problems as such, simply be more prone to det. If you have increased boost pressure then only use super!

poor running is either in your head or just down to poor fuel quality - not the RON rating.

Higher octane fuels will always produce more power as you get a more efficient burn from higher octane fuel versus low octane.Thats why race engines run high octane fuel :)

Stick that weasel p@ss they sell at morrisons in and tell me it doesnt run poorly!......i wouldnt fill a lawnmower with it!!!.

My 3.0 Calibra used to hate it, it would spit and fart on it and that wasnt turbo'd.

its not actually - higher octane fuels generally have a lower calorific value than a lower octane fuel (fuel quality being the same) - what it does allow is more agressive tuning to acheive more power :)
