Hey Guys,

I wanted to know are the z really driveable at all in the wet? i mean he British weather seems likes its just always raining and miserable. Can a z be used aggressively during wet and damp times? Looks like average times of the year we going to be wet or damp!

Never use mine in the wet,but when i get caught out in the rain on a drive out i have to change my driving style being very cautious, and not a case of if but when the backend steps out(even with sticky rubber) on boost she will step out and in the dry,so i do feel it for you guys who drive all year round in these cars.

I drive mine all year round and really have to watch it in the rain it's not that much of a pain now that Im use to it and how to control the power, but at first it was pretty darn scary.

Well here's mine in the wet just gotta adjust your driving style a bit :)

Driving it in the wet is fine as long as you don't use the throttle like an on/off switch. Some of my most memorable drives in this car have been in the wet, the back end will come out if you come on boost, but that's part of the fun!

My user name came after the first time I took mine out in the wet

It had khumo tyres on it when I first got it , maybe it should

Have been scarysideways300 , it is more fun tho

haha nice name :P, but would you be able to put power down in the wet though? i mean i am not talking pouring rain just bit wet or damp!

its a rear wheel drive car .... just use your throttle correctly and u be fine .

Exactly - RWD with nigh-on 300bhp and no modern devices like traction control or electronic stability program.....

......But decent tyres do make a difference!! I only only use mine as a weekend toy now; but I have been caught out in the rain several times - especially during a week's holiday - but I have had no real dodgy issues with the back end stepping out; and I don't drive like a granny either!! I am running on Continental Sport Contact 3 tyres all round; and the Goodyear Eagles I had before that were also brilliant. Expensive, yes, but also safe and (a little more) predictable - my life is worth more than a few extra £££s spent on tyres!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I don't know how late this reply will be, but I love my zed in the wet :)

I find it to be very stable, but mine is an na..... :)

I use my zed every day regardless of the weather and dont hang about in it and ive not had a problem with it even on boost.I would say the zed is far more predictable than capris etc that ive had in the past.

I drive my zed all year round, and as said you drive to the conditions, as you should in any car,If you drive over the limit expect to have a brown trouser moment, I have drove my Zed in the sun, rain, and snow and it was a much more predictable than either my calibra v6 or my vectra v6 and they had tc,and the zed coped better than either of them

gotta say, i had an Rx7, and the 300 seems way more drivable in the wet. Dont know if its the weight or what. you have to be sensible in any RWD car in the wet, but as far as 300bhp goes, i think it copes really well.

bluntley. mine sucks in the rain. back end out at as little as 3000rpm. wheels spin up all the time under acceleration, no matter how easy you take it, and they even spin up in the dry on full boost at 50mph+. Guess thats the tyres. got some new tyres going on tomorrow, will let you know the difference.

In comparison to a modern RWD car Zed's are pretty crap in the wet. Softly softly is the approach and without much provacation the back will step out. This is in comparison to a number of newer RWD cars I have owned, one of which a e90 BMW 330i which had similar performance to a TT zed, but needed serious agresive driving before it would even show a hint of oversteer or requiring traction control intervention.

Thats because the e90 bmw has Traction control on a little even when it is supposed to be off,Most modern cars always utillises Traction control slightly,Thats just how manufacturers do it these days

In my 1 series holding the button down instead of pressing it turned the dsc off all together. :)

I know that it is supposed to turn off and in all porposes it is but the ecu still monitors engine revs, throttle position, and roadwheels at all times even though you have the DSC off if the ecu thinks that the engine is revving at a higher speed to what the wheels are supposed to be turning at, the ecu kicks the DSC in slightly to prevent an accident, without the drivers knowledge, that is what I have been told

Simples!!!!

If you don't feel your up to the task then don't drive it in the wet. :tongue_smilie:

If you can't afford to have a car just sitting there for the dry times, them don't get one (or if you already have one, sell it).

your talking about 20 year old Jap technology...

I drive mine every day (wet/dry/snow) and I got mine because I love the Zed... :punk:

I personally don't give a %&£$ about anything else.....

:):):)

As others have said you just gotta be mindful that it's quite a bit of uncontrolled (traction control) torque going to the rear wheels, my auto would spin up if you even thought about using the kickdown and flooring it off the lights always ends up with the back stepping out even if it's only damp but in all honesty as long as you don't drive it like you stole it you should be fine

I tried full throttle full boost, upto the 180kmh, on partners dads private farm tarmaced "track" it was damp but not soaked. puddles at side of track. not slipping, or sliding, no wheel spin after 30-40mph. It was well planted, only felt like a few seconds but was long enough to ntice the difference. Never taken it to the limiter before lol.

Very pleased. held much better than rx7, supra and MR2s I have driven.

saying that my friends RX7 was running over 600bhp when he had it, and another friends R33 GTR was running around 500bhp, in the wet, wih wide decent rear tyres the RX7 demolished it. So Tyres really do play a big part.

my zeds a daily drive goes out in all weathers was even out in the snow,

if its an auto the hold buttons useful, but as said good set of tyres is the best thing you can do,

i had an s13 and it was lethal in all weathers the zed by comparison is so controllable.

but on the other hand, it doesn't need to be wet or even damp for mine to be full on sideways, (in private places of course)
