urgent help

right got the engine in was running fine....till this m orning went to fire her up she started then after about 30 sec just sort of died

so checked all the fuses relating to fuel coz it sounded that way i.e she kinda wanted to fire but doesnt..

then the cat warning light comes on when i turn the key and nothing..

any sugestions

I know its like a statement from the Ministry Of The Bleedin' Obvious.....but is there fuel in it?.

Check for fuel and a spark and go from there.Does it turn over ok on the starter?......

yea theyrs half a tanks in it

well its turning over just not firing then the cat light cam on and its just now doing anything..i turn the key the cat light comes on and nothing

now it sounds like its about to fire then then just turns n turns then itll sound as if its going to fire then repeats

Check to see if you've got fuel actually going into the engine (whip a plug out and see if its wet), then might be worth checking all your connectors and wiring to the engine.

you need to get a volt meter on the battery and if you manage to get it going again measure the voltage from the alternator.

 

have you done the usual connector checks, with all this wet weather there are bound to be some corroded connections... (lol.. beat me too it..) :)

 

I think the cat sensors can be disconnected (if that will make any difference) ...

 

and you have checked all three fuse boxes?

 

when was the last service, fuel, air filters, plugs?

 

there are checks in the Service manual to check the coil packs and injectors..

it was service on friday night before the engine went in..was running ok..idiling at 900-1k(a little high)

it was down on power quite badly which would point to a collapsed cat but the not starting now after a got runs puzzling me..

batterys dead now on charge

Ah... the plot thickens.....

 

so I can assume the timing was done correctly with a light, and set to 15?

 

I don't think there is an easy way to see if it's slipped a cog, but since it won't start I'd be worried.

 

I guess you just have to go over everything fine a fine tooth comb, maybe some loose earths, connectors not in right, blockage in the fuel line..

well i had to swap the cas unit and injectors/fuel rail because the connectors were the earlier units

here's a video of it trying to start today..

Check your PTU connections, injector plugs and check fuse for the fuel pump near the brake cylinder.

It may not be a faulty PTU, just the plugs not connecting properly. Check your spark first, if all coil packs are getting a signal then the PTU is probably fine.

Check for fuel in the line by disconnecting one of the pipes either to the fpr or at the filter.

Check the fuel relay next to the tcu in the drivers footwell.

right check the ptu the conector them selfs are fine the wires goinv into the conectors are starting to show tiny bits of copper..

checked the fuel lines definetly fuel getting through and the relay and fuse are good

just going out to check for spark

nope no alarm

striped the plenum off again..start from the fuel rails up..

notice though that the fuel rail that came off the engine had an earth..on the one from the parts engine doesnt

what she sounded like last night after a return trip to work

 

Sounds like that's running on 5 cylinders, would explain your lack of power too.

a little update took the fuel rails of and found number 4 inj wasnt seated correctly(seriosly out) anyway sorted that cleaned everythingup as i was going..anyway now it just wont turn over ill put a wee vid up off whats happening
