I have got a noise from my n/a manual gearbox when in gear. I can only describe as an "induction air sucking" noise, it works fine and has the thrust bearing noise when the clutch is dropped in neutral but just wondered your thoughts, I'm going to do an oil change so will see if it cures it,

first thing to check is that the gator at the bottom of the gear stick may have come loose... just make sure it's on right....

aside from that (if it isn't that) an oil change is a good place to start but it could also be a clutch issue..

good luck.

Cannot say what the sucking sound is without hearing it first hand but if the noise is present with the "when the clutch is dropped in neutral" do you mean the gearbox in neutral or with the clutch pedal depressed? if its when the gearbox is in neutral but the clutch pedal up its a gearbox bearing as the input shaft is still turning in the box, however if the noise is when the pedal is depressed with the thrust bearing under load then it is the release bearing.

I have this same issue, but only when it is in 2nd and 4th. I have checked the oil and its tip top.

I had not thought about the gear stick gator being loose, and that would make sense since I have recently had the dash out and it could well have popped off.

My gearbox was a little noisey when I fitted it but added some molyslip gearbox additive and that sorted it out.ive used molyslip in loads of manual geatboxes and diffs (not lsd diffs though!) and its good stuff :)

I have a slight thrust bearing noise when the clutch pedal is up and that does go slightly when depressed, but this noise is noticeable when in gear, I will change the oil and check rubber boot and report back

I checked the rubber boot and that did make a noticeable difference thankyou, I still have to change oil tonight just for good measure
