If you mean the rear ball joints on the hicas arms you need a ball joint splitter like this

I have just replaced both my outer hicas ball joints,

I found that the only way I could get mine to budge was to use a 3 legged gear puller combined with a variety of sockets.

I would add though, if you do not keep the hub end HOT! the thing will not budge. I had to re heat every turn of the puller.

HTH.

Have you tried having someone hold the head of a sledge hammer against the rear side of the hub whilst your trying to hammer the hicas joint out cos all the joints are rubber bushed and when your giving it some beans on the hicas joint with a hammer alot the shock load will be being absorbed by the rubber bushes instead of cracking the joint loose , having something heavy and solid against the rear should help transfer more shock load into the joint , i,ve used this method alot on varius suspension ball joint that don,t want to budge with great success .HTH

Its as quick to take the hub carrier off and press them out.....saves loads of blood and swearing and less chance of buggering something up with large hammers! :)

These normally get cut off at the front and then sledged out backwards or the otherway round. However sometimes heat and alot of effort is required. Failing that hydraulic power is the only way to go. I think Jap Slapper ended up getting the knuckles off as he had the same drama so i would PM him :)

You must believe me folks I have tried with assistance from my brother with gear pulling tools and blow torches

and we must of spent the good part of two separate weekends trying to get the damn things out but they just

will not budge even a few millimetres.

So if anyone knows of a guide to get the full knuckle off that would be great.

Ive got as far as disc off / calliper off then hub bolt off.

You just need to undo the bolts on the top arms and pop the balljoint on the wishbone. Don't forget to undo the handbrake cable. The hub should come off now but may need a bit of persuading.

Right this is starting to really piss me off now.

How the hell in layman's terms do you get the bloody hub off, and i mean bloody as its now covered in my own blood trying to get the damb thing off ?

I've undone every bolt possable that can be undone (i think), is there some sort of hub puller tool apart from hitting it with a sledge hammer ?

at the moment i'm so frustrated i feel like taking it to the biggest ruddy cliff i can find and pushing it over.

I've been messing arround for two weeks now over what seems a simple ball joint and i'm getting knowhere.

Any pics or direct instructions would be gratefull.

Ok can see now you meant the hicas ball joint not the rod end that I thought you meant.

So I can see many have tried to explain how their own experience of how removing them went, both good and bad. If you can hold on a couple of days I will get a breaker up on a ramp and do the whole process with pictures to show how it is done, even if your half way it will help retrieve the situation.

after I finally got the knuckles off I discovered that the wishbone ball joints were leaking and extremely worn

So as Nissans replacements were so bloody expensive I ordered myself up some shiny new driftworks ones.

Still need to get the old bushes pressed out the knuckle but that should be done by next week hopefully.

Happy days

Yep, if I ever had to do this again the hubs would be coming straight off. Just not worth the hassle trying to replace them with the hubs still fitted as far as I'm concerned.
