Z wont start after some work

I have a '91 NA that has recently undergone some major surgery all at once... mainly a replacement engine and a manual conversion using TT gearbox & parts.

Anyway I got all the fluids done at the weekend but it wouldnt start even after about a minutes worth of cranking, made no improvement in attempting to start so I figured something was up. I haven't checked for spark yet but theres definately fuel, just wondered if I had missed anything with the gearbox conversion? I haven't ground pin 44 on the ECU yet but that wont stop it will it?

Will be looking at it tomorrow and unless anyone flags anything up I'll be checking connections & ptu etc.

Yep linked both sides of the connector in the wheelarch, haven't done the reverse light connector yet but I cant see that making a difference. and the ECU pin 44 ground job is just so the timing alters when in neutral?

Yeah, not grounding pin 44 shouldn't stop it starting. Did you have to add spacers for the starter motor mounting?

Nah its a TT box, starter, clutch, flywheel etc. The engine is turning over just not starting up.

The only other thing I can say is theres only front pipes on the car at the mo, but again I'd still expect it to start, just run shit and sound noisy. lol

Aah, I get confused on which combo needs the spacers..

Don't know then mate, but I've got a gut feeling that it's something simple... If you know what I mean.

Yeah I know what you're saying. Its the first time I've completed an engine swap with just lil' old me around, usually I have at least one technically minded person around. lol.

I'm just a bit unsure as I've done the auto to manual conversion at the same time.

They are off :D i dont hang about

Between you and gonzo, you'll get it sorted mate. You've done well swapping the engine and box on your own bud. :thumbup1:

Its about time the car got back on the road... I hope you appreciate how hard it is having an NA on the drive for almost a year and not stripping it lol.

And she's a beauty :) cant wait to get some better pics of her really showing off her fresh pearly paint :)

Fix her up (nearly there) MOT, then the way finances are going at the mo - shorter hours at work due to quiet periods and a little 'un - it'll probably go straight up for sale when ready. But.. I do want something else to sit on the driveway in its place, something old and retro. Theres been some 260z's going cheap recently and I'd love a V8 project one :)

Could you immobiliser be stuck on for some reason?

Hmmm thats a good point, its got a Toad alarm/immobiliser same as my other Z, I've not had the car running but it was running until a hole appeared in the block lol

Thinking of it, alarm systems usually immobilise the starter circuit only, or starter and fuel pump circuit. I've got both of them so probably not that :)

wheres these cheap 280s at ill have one too :D

ewww not a 280 :nono:

Spent a couple of hours on the Z today finishing bits off and checking for this problem.

Theres definately no spark. I cant smell fuel in the engine bay now so may be low of juice but that doesnt change the fact there is no spark.

I have checked and cleaned the connectors on the PTU, CAS, TPS, coolant sensor. Tried the PTU off my TT. No joy.

Carried out an ECU Diagnostic check - code 55 - no malfunctions.

I did think I found the issue, the main earth was loose to the gearbox and not attached at all to the engine. So made these two connections good but still nothing.

Removed the fuel pump fuse and cranked for 10 seconds to deflood, but still wouldnt start after.

Can anyone else think of anything to try?

try 8 years your car sat in a garage.....3 bloomin kids later lol

now they have their paper rounds im hoping to be back running and off sorn this summer.

cant wait, 8 years ago i spent over 10k getting a new block/rebuild and the tubs blew after 1500 miles....G U T T E D!!!

BRING ON AUGUST WOOHOOOOOOO

thanks guys. and there was me hoping I had some serious replies

anyone got any ideas? before the NA diff finds its way onto my TT?

Since you seem to have checked it all mate, I'm thinking that the only things left are maybe a blown fuse somewhere or 6 duff coil packs (god knows what the odds of that happening are tho').
