So what's happening with this dibs in selling parts? As I called dibs and it got ignored and a mod bought the parts.

Does this not stand anymore? Just so I know for next time when dibs are called ill just ignore and proceed to buy even if he or she is online to close the deal. I was waiting for a price so could not close the deal so called dibs.

awww what a happy ending.

lol @ Streams flexing his muscles never seen him so serious :tt2:

Never felt the need to before mate, but I will defend myself :)

Cheers buddy, I'm just glad it turned out well, and no ill feelings at all buddy. I will quite happily let you have the wheel nuts if you would like them.......:thumbup::pint::pint:

If Dan doesnt want them then I'll have them :tt2:

Just whilst we're on the subject of correct sales threads, I fcukin hate it when people put £20 + postage. Why not put the delivered price to start with!!!!!!

In my case I mostly try and include the postage in the final price. But I guess you don't always know what something is going to cost and you also have "how much if I pick it up"

The one thing that this thread (not my ebc one) has shown up is that a lot of people are not happy with the way sales are carried out on the site. I will ask the committee if this can be looked at and if some of the ideas that were mentioned in the thread could be adopted.

These problems usually arise when the seller puts up a poor for sale thread - Missing details, missing photo's. One person needs more info, whereas another just comes along and buys it.

Its always up to the seller who he sells too, but if you place an advert and miss out vital info then some courtesy would nice.

The best thing to do is just not place adverts missing important info/pics.

Other forums have For sale templates in place, where the seller has to fill out required information to place the advert, helps to ensure important stuff is not missing and makes the seller think about what they need to list.

In this case though, Dibs is not event relevent, since the seller asked for offers and sold to the first person that made one.

As Yowser, says some forums use a template, some US sites ask for sellers info plus pics if it isn't filled in correctly then its removed by a mod.

Having something like this would at least help when people post up without pics etc, and then people ask for dibs pending more info & pics.

Perhaps the commitee could consider this or something similar?

Following this thread we are now looking into that very suggestion - or at least a way of improving the whole "dibs" and selling in general system so that it is fair and clear for everyone.

I fully understand the confusion over the current "dibs" position; I for one do not like "dibs" for the very reasons this thread has highlighted. If I want something, I say "I'll take it" and just buy it with no messing..... But I can also see the frustration if someone does express a genuine interest in an item for sale, but whilst asking questions etc to ensure that it is the right thing they want, someone else comes in with the cash and buys it under their nose!!!

I too like Slick Pete's way of selling - simple no dibs, no messing, just first to offer cash gets it! But that won't work for everyone either.....

......so please watch this space; as Chris Rea sung, we're working on it...!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Just out of interest, what would have happened if Dan's reply was 'I'll take them, let me know a price" - because thats exactly what he meant just worded differently.

I personally don't think the club intervention is necessary in this case and will just cause the moderators more policing requirements. It should be at the sellers discretion who he/she sells to, not the club to dictate who they feel dibs'd first.

All IMO of course :)

That is a definitive statement and not subject to ambiguity or doubt over his intentions; but how can we say what the likely outcome would have been? I would like to think that the seller would have given Dan the price and, provided he was happy with it, Dan got his purchase......

....But that is the very point. It is NOT up to the club who the seller decides to do business with; and it will always remain that way - the club is not intending to dictate or intervene in private deals between individuals. The club is simply listening to the feelings of the membership over the whole buying/selling system and considering ways to improve it for the benefit of all members.

We will not get involved with individual transactions (save for Graham stepping in to help where he can, if a deal goes bad and someone rips off someone else); nor "police" threads in the way you suggest. Like I said, if there is a weakness in the current system (be it over "dibs" or whatever) then we need to consider options to reduce bad feeling and conflict between members as necessary. It is never possible to please all of the people all of the time - all we want to do is ensure that, in the main, our membership is happy with using the club for its intended purpose!

When i started coming here, dibs meant that, it meant " i have the money ready to give you, please let me know how to pay you asap"

Over the years it has become" i quite like that, maybe this pay day, or the next, we could haggle over the price if i havnt changed my mind"

So i rekon its the fault of " buyers" over the years that those of us who still mean the former now have to type it in full

you know what... I totally agree with that.

Richard your point is fair too, I guess its just that I know Dan doesnt mess people about.
