Just wondered if anyone had built, or knows of a kit car around a 300zx engine, running gear etc?

I have a spare NA auto and rather than spend money on body work I wondered if it could be a donor for a kit as the engine and gear box are mint with only around 56000 kilometers on the clock.

Pic,s or leads welcome

i remember seeing a guy recently join

http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?161965-Hi-from-within-earshot-of-Donington could be interesting, also i seem to remember a thread on here a long while back using an escort with a z32 lump.

i would love to do an engine swap on a Micra like an S reg, make it rear wheel drive with a TT lump in, just do it up as one of those special edition micras that was produced with a turbo lump in., keep it as a sleeper, just change the wheels, but when you put your foot down...................................gone.

I'm in the same position and really want to transplant the engine into something retro. Someone on the other Z forum is putting a VG30DETT into a tranny van as we speak.

I'd love to put it in something like this:

...for an awesome Jeepers Creepers / Driving Wars / Death Race type truck! But I guess its really shouting out for a loud V8!!

i may well one of these days cut up a capri with a rusted rear floor and drop in the zeds rear subframe and the vg30dett. gets rid of the leafs gains a proper lsd and rear disks its a winner. esp as once rot gets into the box section that houses the leaf the car becomes costly to fix.

There is a sierra in Scotland with a vg30dett. I had planned on putting my spare engine in an Opel manta but once the zed is finished, my car modding days are over!

I have been thinking of an Ariel Atom or MEV Rocket frame with a TT engine in it.

guess lots of work will be needed to mount a rear engine and make it rear wheel or 4WD..

anyone knows if it is possible to mount the engine over the rear axle and not need major MOD's?

Um, that sounds very difficult.. Firstly the engine will be so high up it'll be like riding a rocking chair on a waterbed, secondly, it'll be an almighty headache getting the gear box and diff to marry up. Having a car that weighs 800kg and the vast majority of that weight above/behind the rear axle would be a pig to drive quickly. There's a reason they use 4 cylinder engines in those types of chassis, namely packaging. I would forget that idea straight off, personally. That said, doing a wheelie every time you put your foot down, would be quite amusing - well, until you killed yourself, anyway!

Iff this is possible then the worlds your lobster...how much you want to spend should be the 1st question:laugh:

The owner of Clutch Clinic in Hereford has an autograss micra, he's in the process of dropping the VG30DETT and auto box out of his LWB scrapper into it

I haven't checked on progress for a good while now but will take some pics next time I stop by for a chat
