im sure there was one around here somewhere but i cant seem to find it any more, im going to get started on by putting the dreaded clutch pedal and brake pedal in, but before i got destroying the inside of my car, i need to know how easy it is to get that metal plate off the fire wall. thats all im interested in, so anyone who has done the manual conversion and had to remove that plate (you know what im on about if you have done it) how did you go about it?

I used a hammer and cold chisel to knock out the spot welds holding it in place bud. You could probably use a drill as well. It does come out fairly easily but you'll need to use a bit of brute on it.

Is this what you were looking for? ; http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?117000-Auto-to-manual-conversion

i sent you a text bud did you get it?

was wondering about saturday and sunday bud

getting the box off the car isnt the problem, its getting the manual onto the car on my own, do able but would rather have the extra hands to get it up.

still the same mate. They've got a massive and poorly planned order in at work and I'm having to sort it out myself (as usual)

What I did was use a a jack and a bit of 2x4. Place jack at front of box and lift then put the wood across the gap where the gearshifter goes. Drop some rope through the gap and round the box rear then lift it up and tie it off round the wood. This allows you to "swing" the gearbox into position and makes fitting it easy.

no 2 x 4 lol, well if i get the worst part out of the way (clutch pedal) gearbox isn't that much of an issue then. typical i need a hammer and chisel (one bit i don't have since my tool kit got stolen back in 2009)

I broke the seal with a hammer and chisel and bent the plate at the top and bottom. Then wiggled it up and down till the welds came off.

no hammer and chisel lol, oops, ill figure something out, just dont fancy damaging my car thats all.

A big old screwdriver (used as a lever) is probably enough. Or why not get your drill on the welds? you don't need to go all the way through just enough to break the welds.

i got a hoofing long tire iron with a large flat head end, but its too long i think from being in the footwell to get it to leaver enough to break the welds.

Are you trying to remove it from the footwell? It's a lot eaiser doing from the bay side. lol

i just thought about that, but im not even at the car yet, just wanted to get some ideas on how to get it shifted before i started taking my angle grinder to it.

No damage to the car not even the paint work just use it to break the seal on the sealant then bend it out.

Aah, it's also bonded on so running a screwdriver around it to break the bonding will help you get it started. As said, once you get a couple of the welds bust it will wiggle off.

vody cut the little lip off the clutch peddle bracket ... it will help clear past the wires when trying to put it in place

Omg all that worry about getting that plate off and it basically came away from the firewall with a few lumps lol

Ok right next question, clutch booster on or off for fitting, why does it look like I got less room to play with than when I removed a manual conversion kit lol

sorry edit

booster on the peddle frame work .. just cut that lip off

dont bother with vac booster ... just T in to the main brake vac line after the one way valve ... jobs a good'n and less work
