was told at work today ( AS U DO )

when my sump was getting pressurised due 2 insufficient breathers it caused i think my rear engine oil seal to leak and even blew the dipstick out!!

i have since fitted uprated breathers and no more smoke from rear thank god!!

but the lad at work told me that now there is no more pressure in the sump your oil seal will bed in again and stop leaking

hmmmm!!! is this true guys??

This is what happened to my engine. but it must have blown all the oil out and the engine ran with no oil and then quit, putting a leg out of bed!! Did you find out which breathers it was?

radial oil seals have a small spring to keep the lip of the seal in contact with the crank (or whatever) surface, so as long as the seal lip or spring has not been damaged then now the heavy breathings been sorted it may very well stop leaking. is it a manual?? - just hope its not contaminated the clutch plate if it was a bad leak.

cheers guys, and yes its a manual, and it was the standard nissan breather that was a bit difficult 2 blow through on the passenger side, i have since fitted turbo technics uprated breathers that has cured it cross fingers!!!

Its part number 12279-18V00 from courtesy if you need one, ive just confirmed this part number with them cos im gonna change mine when i do my clutch, well worth doing if you are changing the clutch and its only $15.

This sounds like the problem I have as I'm getting lots of oil dripping on the exhaust.

Not good when I'm just having a bonnet bulge/vent fitted - It'll look like a chimney!

Mine's an auto... what bits do I need from Courtesy and is it hard to fit?

I was thinking of changing the PCV's - are these the same thing?
