can anyone tell me why the uk spec cars have standerd wider wheels but the jap spec ones dont ?

Possibly...... I believe it was (and maybe still is for all I know) illegal in Japan to run a road car on 45-profile tyres.....

So the J-spec twin turbo ran on the same wheels front and rear so they could have 225/50 tyres all round! Whereas in Europe (where speeds are generally faster) and the USA (where people drive greater mileages) they could do the normal sports GT thing like Porsche and fit wider rear tyres. But in doing so they had to maintain the same rolling radius - hence 245/45 tyres (illegal in Japan) would be fitted.

I read that somewhere ages ago; so it could just be an urban myth..... then again I might be right!!
