Six years later!!!!!!!!!!! Its got a ticket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was nearly six years ago that Yaseen brought me his damaged slicktop .

After I stripped off everything he wanted I was left with a damaged rolling shell.

Today I took it for an MOT and got a first time pass.:thumbup1:

Just need to get insurance transferred to it and tax it for June 1st.

Its still a work in progress with lots to do.

Might have a run to JapShow at Santa Pod.

Richard:thumbup1:

Well Thats good isnt it.:thumbup1:

However I have just had a count up ...... In the time I have been building this car I have cut up NINE more cars:blink::blink:

So the odds on a car surviving a trip to my place arent good really:no::no:

More Progress.

Last weekend my pal Steve managed to come to my place and we spent an hour driving up and down the bypass with him sitting in the passenger seat with his laptop and getting the Emerald ECU running close enough for the longish drive to Watton for a full mapping session at Emerald HQ.

This is now booked for Jul 3rd.

I have also transferred my JIB 760 plate on to the car now. How exciting is that:lol:

Still waiting for a trip out in the beast Pete ;) You'll have to take me a spin when it comes back from Emerald :D

Wait no longer... Its mapped!

I had a really productive day at Emerald today.

Given that this is a stock engine from a previous "breaker " of mine I am well pleased with the results.

The headline figure of 232 BHP is actually lower than the figure recorded 6 years ago on my old slicktop (242 bhp)

Since BHP is a rather meaningless calculated figure Im not too bothered by the actual number itself. Most dyno operators like to "please" their clients with a good figure. Emerald are well known for producing "modest" figures.

Just look at the progression of smooth power all the way up from 2500 to 6500.

Just look at the torque it makes over the same range.

And finally check out the AFR if you ever doubted how good Emerald is.

The car feels really lively but on damp roads and with suspension settings all over the place I didnt feel confident to push it.Also this was the first run in six years on the road. Its now an NA manual. last time it was driven in anger it was a TT auto and it ended up in a lampost. I didnt want a rerun of Yaseens accident.

Here are a few pics of the day in progress along with the obligatory "graph"

Now...... Where did I put that high compression forged engine???????

So one step further this week....

i took the car down to DB Automotive next door to Santa Pod Raceway to get the rear arches rolled. Didnt get any flaring done so it still looks stock. So no point it taking a picture. LOL!

Im not sure if I really need it doing or not but I didnt want to turn up next week for suspension setting to find out the tyres fouled.

i was well pleased with the result and it was good to give the car another run. Its still frustating as I cant floor it yet due to the back end not aligned correctly . Its fine on a smooth dry road like the M1 but on the lane down to Santa Pod the car dives around on its own:huh:

Well a trip to Nottingham 4Wheel Alignment Srevices today has got all the wheels pointing in the same direction and at the correct angle .

Car feels completely different.

Im well chuffed

One of the best mods I have done and not expensive for a full tracking, camber and castor front plus tracking and camber at the back.

Total £88.

Good work Pete:thumbup1: no worries of uneven tyre wear mate

Im going out tomorrow Sun to see if i can wear the tyres down a bit at York Raceway.

I havent done any 1/4 miles for several years so I have probably forgotton what to do.

So it will be a no pressure day out for me to see how the car feels under pressure!!

The rev counter is all over the place and the speedo is not working so I will just follow my usual form of old and squeeze it till it squeaks.

the Emerald system starts to cut out at7500 revs so that will tell mwe when I need to change up a gear.

So I went to York..... and its broke!!!!!!

Not serious.....

Only made a couple of runs before a fuelling related issue stopped play.

Managed to nurse it home on a VERY lean AFR reading without too much drama.

It runs... badly.

No smoke.

no steam

no overheating.

No pushing out water.

no missfire as such

Fuel pressure ... OK

Im neither surprised or disappointed really as that is what the object of the day out was... to put it under extreme conditions.

Its a vindication of my original policy of building and testing the whole car with a standard engine BEFORE installing my new high compression forged engine.

Im sure with a little help from some "friends" I will track down the problem.

Onwards and upwards.

Problem fixed today!!!:clap::clap::clap:

A little diagnostic work highlighed the fact that one of the injector connector plugs had gone in to a high resistance mode due to the usual corrosion. It was not bad enough to cause a missfire but was enough to drop the voltage and alter the injector firing wave.

Just need to get out for a run to check it all out.

Small world, I didn't realise this was Yaseen's car. We were mates at uni, way back when I had my Sapph Cos.

Have you kept in touch with him? Not spoken to him for years.

He was on the forum and posted recently about the car!
