after reading crash courses how do you do it thread just now, after loosing lots of skin and blood on a zed engine, i have lost tools, that just seem to fall down the sides of the engine never to be seen again.

to my memory so far ive lost , 2 x 14mm sockets, a 10mm socket, a small stubby screwdriver, a couple of stanley blades, a det sensor connector and the small plastic black screw from the top of the radiator. they have fallen and been lost down the sides never to be seen again, i can see one of the 14mm sockets, stuck above the turbos but below the manifold.

But i have also found a 10mm snap on spanner and a spark plug both under the lower plenium, plus a pair of long nose pliers under the drivers seat main carpet.

anyone else lost stuff in the zed?

Everything I drop always seems to end up on top of the gearbox somehow.. Don't know how. lol

Not had this problem im very particular at keeping hold of them, and I invested in a magnet on a stick to solve the probllem

I had one of those magnets on a stick, was great until I used it to get a washer that I'd dropped. When I brought the stick out the magnet was left stuck to the washer AND the engine block. Bugger's still there. lol

Tonight I dropped a 1/4" drive ratchet + small extension, 10mm socket, small extension (again) with socket attached and two timing belt cover screws - all recovered 'tho :innocent:

Just remember to plug those turbos when you take the intercooler pipes off, I had loads of fun getting a 10mm socket out of my turbo housing

I've lost my temper in there a few times.

lol

I dropped my magnet on a stick. Has anyone got a stronger magnet on a stick?

I did have a stronger magnet on a stick, but I dropped it trying to get my magnet on a stick that I dropped, so if anyone has got a really strong magnet on a stick, I can use it to get my stronger magnet on a stick and my magnet on a stick, then I can lend my stronger magnet on a stick to Dave.

lmao. I guess it needs to e much sronger, as the original magnet on a stick, will be magnetised to something else trying to stop you picking it up. my tools tend to be titanium, which is not magnetic, so I have no need for a magnet on a stick :s

Sticks aren't magnetic either, so if your magnet falls off your stick, and you need to recover your stick, it's bad times....

Sorry for the slight change of subject but thought this was funny at the time.

I used to work at NEC Semiconductors in a wafer fab and was working with one of the Jap engineers one day and noticed he had a set of chop sticks in his tool box. Did think it was a bit of a mancky place to keep your lunch utencils.

Anyway all became clear this day when he droped a screw inside one of the machines, and as is the way with our cars it landed in a place you were never going to reach it with your fingers. So without any fuss he just picked up his chop sticks reached in and pulled it out. Obviously nissan engineers were handy with there chop stickes when they laid out the Z's engin bay.

wee tip, remove engine under tray before you start work. Everything will then fall on the ground. :)

try being the mechanic who lost a philips head screw driver bit in my engine,it ended up lodged in my turbo, which is why my zed has been off road 8 years...when i see him he will be loosing a few teeth in the next engine he works on grrrr
