In the three and a half years that I've owned my Zed, I've only had to work in the engine bay a couple of times (compression check, IACV and various connectors).

Tonight I thought that I'd remove the timing belt cover on the CAS side (to inspect the timing belt).......good gods! how many bolts hold that thing on?

I've got skinny arms but even so - there's so many sharp bits of plastic and metal in the way.....and I must have dropped every tool I used onto the engine tray

I know it's probably a trivial job but I've given up for the night, I'll try again tomorrow after work :hammer:

my car has more of my blood than i do, if you dont cut your self working on a 300zx you are not working hard enough lol

hang on in there mate, once you have done it a few times, it so much easier. just wait till you have to remove the gearbox or engine. that is a whole different animal. time to loose lots of knuckle skin.

Aye, your both right - my forearms are all scraped to bits from the fan, the fan cowl and the intercooler tube - lol

My thoughts too.....

....hell these cars were designed for tiny pigmy hands if you ask me!!! I am not one for working on my car anymore; but I will sometimes have a stab at minor jobs if I think I can do it. And luckily I heal quickly as each time I have scratched my hands to buggery - and I hate that as I have OCD and do not like my hands to appear in any way scuffed/scratched/grazed/like I have used them for "proper work" etc etc....

Richard:tongue_smilie:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I think that when they were build they never expected anyone to

Ever lift the bonnet cos they were never going to go wrong lol

Z32 was the first engine bay to be designed using CAD which is how they managed to cram everything into the space available, though saying that I still find its one of the easiest cars to work on that I've owned

In a weird kinda way, I agree, it may be cramped, but once you've got used to that it's fine, even pulling the engine is a heck of a lot easier than most modern cars, and dropping the box is a doddle, but I do still shred my hands on most jobs though, but I do that on every car really, I've been thinking of a tattoo on my arm for a while, but it'll be a waste of money as it'll be ruined a week after I've had it done due to shredding of my arm :)

Very true mate, as you know I'm a mechanic, and I use gloves for oil changes and brake discs/pads, but not for anything that requires dexterity, as like you said, you can't feel a nut in your fingers and end up dropping it, plus they don't last 2 minutes, the thumbs go through and I end up with black thumbs and sweaty white hands, they do make you look hard though whrn you shred your hand and the glove fills with blood, haha, but I think I'm gonna get some proper mechanics thin work gloves, not cheap, but seem to be good, also, it may be latex that you have a reaction to, maybe try some latex free ones?

got that stuff all ready but been playing with the oil car not for a week all most every day its in the pours of my hands

when i was working at a garage, i found that swarfega and a nail brush worked wonders, you would never fully get it out, but most of it better than just trying to use your hands on hands.

My hands are almost always like that too, I can scrub them red raw but still never clean, and I have a mechanic friend, who's wife got rather ill down below from, erm, shall we say, 'cross contamination'?

thats why you wear latex gloves during nookie lol

Yeah I don't use gloves either. Recently done my engine out and in again...again!lol and the drivers side of my engine is ridiculous! It's got a turbo, then a sandwich plate with 1/2inch oil hoses for my oil cooler, the stock oil pressure sender as I relocated it to the oil tree after fitting my braided lines, a 10mm oil hose coming from the stock oil cooler position up to a sensor block for my gauge senders, an accusump line into a T piece, a one way valve for the oil cooler line and the steering rack and column, the power steering pump and the alternator!!!

Passenger side has just the turbo and LOADS of space 'cos there's no aircon! GRRR

Wish the oil tree was on the passenger side of the engine!

now i know why my knob gets bigger ... its not because of the wife its the reaction of the latex on it ... lol
