Just been to town, 30 limit, and two grannies were there with their notepad and a speed gun.

It was handheld. No Tripod, doubt they could hold it with no movement whatso ever, to give a true reading.

But I saw them jotting down my number plate, I didnt feel like I was doing over 30, was pretty much spot on when I looked down (about 32 max) - I tend to watch the road more than the speedo, as I like to drive with due care and attention, and normally have a pretty good sense of speed.

Anyway, what I want to ask is, if they say I was over the limit, no matter how marginal, would I get a warning or a penalty?

I wouldnt of thought a penalty could stand up in court as to be honest, a couple of old biddies, doing voluntary work with speed guns, have to be little hitlers to do it in the first place. Cant imagine the accuracy being very good without a secure, stable stand / tripod.

Thanks for any advice in advance....

Ryan.

Probably at worst get a letting saying it was noted you were over the speed limit in that area please drive carefully within the limits. Their readings wouldn't stand up in a court of law.

Cheers Anthony.

Was in the little Diesel City car lmao. never had any points before lol. want to keep it that way

They might not of been noting my plate, but were writing something, surely retirement cant be that bad that you want to stand in the rain, catching people doing 32mph in a 30 lmao.

I want to get the job, so I can sand at the end of their road and cath them on their way to the supermarket lol. Its hard to stay under 30, I would of thought hovering around the speed is fine. your obviously not showing any disregard to the law. need to allow for slopes / hills etc whereby your speed is bound to increase a little.

so thats what they are???? I've seen something similar recently and i couldnt figure out what they were up to.

they can not do crap m8 ... i got zapped by some to goodies from a 50 in to 30 limit .. i got a letter from the plod saying i was doing 45 in a 30 even tho i was slowing down and they was sat in the 30 ....

letter just said if this was a Pig with gun it would get u 3 points and fine or court atction but in this instence

let it be a warning and watch your speed ...

lmao. well put Mark.

I saw this:

In tests the speed gun recorded a wall speeding at 44mph. (Yes, a brick wall, that's not a misprint) Other tests showed a bicycle doing 66mph and a parked car doing 22mph. The Daily Mail reports that even when the camera is set up following the police's own guidelines and the manufacturer's handbook some of the readings were wildly off the mark.

Due to this, I was under he impression, that all hand held guns, no matter who is holding it, without a support of some sort would be invalid.

You could pull over and ask them for the calibration certificate, if they cant prove its calibrated then they really shouldn't be jotting down your number plate, id also be questioning their motive for jotting it down based on car cloning if they are not the police and would be inclined to ring the police to express my concern.

As for speeding, if you are in between signs, then (got told this by a traffic officer) but if you are going from at 50 zone into a 30, and your doing 45 in between the 50 and the 30 sign, then you are not doing anything wrong, the 30mph zone kicks in level with the 30 sign.

Just checked out the community speedwatch website.

This pretty much sums it up.....

yeah .... they was stud way in to the 30 zone .. zapping drivers coming from 50 to 30 i may have been going a little faster when entering the 30 zone but neither the less i was slowing down to 30 ....

None of that over here as any civilian standing at the side of the road pointing what looks like a gun at a car would soon be removed.

To many of and on duty members of the security forces driving with real guns by there side lol:2guns:

Yeah, would think standing at the side of a road in NI with a something that looks like a gun wouldn't be very wise. lol

I still cant get my head around he fact people volunteer to do this.

if the public sign a partition for a speed cam on there road due to them thinking it will slow drivers down

that strip of rd has to go under some sort of observation 6months>year to see if its in the interest of Funding the local piggy bank

most of the time it doesn't get passed

o, that kind of makes sense, except all our "static" speed cameras around here have been decommissioned. I saw leaflets at local docors surgery looking for volunteers to help improve road safety in the area. Pic like the one BigC posed above lmao.

Welcome to our world bournemouth and pooles surrounding areas are crawling. They have a zero tolerance policy scheme, and have gone from one of worst conviction rztes to one of the highest. They seem to be totally possessed with catching speeders atm. I got caught at 98m doing 40mph, just past the 30 sign where it had been reduced from national. Unmarked car, behind a bush in a layby. Piss take.

The corse cost me a 100 fine, its now 120. There was no average age sex etc, just the fact most had been done just over the limit. I was told at the roadside, if I didnt like it and thought it was off, I should take them to court. Cos were gonna do that!

next time turn the car around and drive past in a safe and controled manner not shouting any sort of malice enriched statements except a big one of these..... they should be at home watching advertizments for leakproof undies:cursing:

Agree 100% Bri.....

.....these are just local busybodies with nothing better to do IMO. The road opposite mine is sometimes used as a cut-through; although you can't speed along it as it has no pavements, several driveways opening onto it and is one constant S-bend. Oh and the road surface is so bad that it shakes your fillings out everytime.

Now some arsey locals have taken to hanging out there with speed guns - because if they can prove that x number of drivers flout the speed limit, they can have speed humps installed. Great!! I don't use this road as a cut-through, I use it because I live in the next road; and I don't want fooking speed humps as I have 2 sports cars......

Richard:no:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Hate people like this with a passion. I hope when I retire I'm not that bored and bitter I sit writing car number plates down. Would be very tempted to buy a pack of eggs and remove my number plates lol.........................

Speed humps seem to be the 'in thing' around my way. They are cropping up so much that you can no longer cross town without coming across some. Almost every street has speed humps. My old house was shaped like so..... l_____________l For whatever reason, they decided to put speed humps at either entrance/exit to the street. What the feck is the point in that???? Its pretty much physically impossible to achieve 30mph at those points???
