I was in at a customer today who competes in the bdc, now he is in the process of finishing of his 1jz engined RX8 and today he ordered a Holset turbo from us which believe it or not is off a truck!! Seems to reckon it's good for 600hp!?! While speaking to him he says these work at approx 2.5 bar on the trucks they are intended for, he is going to run 1.5 bar.

Now this has got me thinking, since i can buy these from my work at cost is there any holset truck turbo's which would be suited to the zed as the one my customer bought today cost approx £450 +vat Brand new! Bit of a long shot but if someone knew that would be awesome. Will try get some details of the turbo tomorrow as i have them in stock at work.

Cheers in advance

Silverline racing is probably your best bet, as he rebuilds and supplies turbos for racing etc...

Popped into work this morning to get the details of the turbo, it's a Holset HX35W.

Try gs racing its were in got my hx35 from they change the one of the impellers so it spools up slightly quicker, from what I've read there not the fastest spooling tubs in the world prob because they run journal bearings but reliable they most definitely will be

So is there enough room to run a pair of these in a 300's engine bay? I take it a custom manifold s needed?

There a similar size to the gt40s I sold the car with the holset attached the other day other wise I'd send u a pic, the yanks only run them on big block v8s and usually only use 1 I wouldn't recommend them on a zed tbh you won't be on full boost till like 6k rpm

ive read alot about these turbos, the hx35 and hx40, alot of th RB boys use them all the time, apparently they are super reliable as they are inteded for trucks , alot of drag cars use them, they are massive and theyre pretty cheap compared to the equivilant from garret, i would certainly use one if i had a rb engine, theres a place of ebay that sell a custom made version of the hx35, smaller hot side for faster spooling, if you ebay search hx35 itl come up, they call it the turboney. let us know how it goes

For a zed I reckon the hx27 might be a better option the 35 is just to big the guys on Driftworks rate them and say they start to run out of puff at around 7k rpm which is fine for a zed the only way I'd use the 35 is if you could fab some crazy manifold to make the zed single turbo

So with the HX27 i presume a pair of custom mainfolds would still be required? Also any ideas on what power they could flow on a zed?
