Anyone own or has owned either of these? The mr2 is a great car but isn't really doing it for me. I have thought about getting another 300zx but for the money I'd need to spend on one I want I could get something a lot newer and try something new. I've always liked the Honda and have heard they are great to drive. The 350z is a handsome looking car and I think it would be good to progress on the Zed front. Your thoughts guys? I will be looking to spend up to 6k but preferably no more than 5k. All opinions welcome.

s2000 everyday for me, 9krpm vtec and handling that will leave the 350 in the dust. since the 370z came out its shone a very poor light on the 350z as it shows what it should have been. just my thoughts mate.

Having owned an S2000 i have slightly different feeling from driving one day to day for a while

the gearbox is the shortest shift i have ever driven in a stock car brilliant and performance for an N/A 2.0 is also the same depite not being quite as quick as a boxsterS in a straight line of the mark I rung the neck out of it and still lost lol but thats where it stops for me it gets a little tiring having to bounce it of 9000rpm all the time after a while and the handling can be very mmm shall we say skittish on higher speed bends and even alittle worrying sometimes

As a weekend car i would still have the S2000 but as a daily driver i would go 350Z its just the better allrounder and far less tireing to drive quickly everytime

have to say to get the S2000 moving you do have to use the vtech , (which is nice) but as said before is tiring when you have to do it all the time

i had one that i borrowed for a few weeks (owner on holiday) and it was fun fun then just fun then a littl;e bit of fun.....then i cant be bothered to rev it anymore....tourque in town driving is where its at ..and the honda seems to lack it unless thrashed HTH

Having had a wonder around JAE last year, I was shocked at how many s2000's were showing fairly serious tin worm! Not something I thought would happen to them, now it might just be the bunch of cars I was looking at but the chap I was walking around with noticed the same!

My boss had an S2000 and loved it, infact he had two but I do think as a daily they might be hard work, quite a thirst for oil as well.

The 350z is a nice car far more usable but probably heavier on juice.

I would go for the 350 as i feel its a much more substantial car and one you could live with every day!

The 350z is nice but the interior lets it down IMO. Can't comment on the Honda. Good value for money though with either car...

Niether, just bide your time till a good z32 comes up, what about the black one that jimmers brother in law is selling?

Thanks for all the replies. The owners ones are particularly useful, and not liking the sound of the rot on the Hondas!! I use a van as my 'daily' as I'm a builder so it is more a second car, always wanted an s2000 but the 350 has grown on me. Decisions decisions. The Zed you mention is exactly my point, that is the sort of car I'd be looking at if i got another Zed. I really like it and the spec is great, needs new wheels though IMO which adds another grand with tyres.

I can always come back to a 300.

Are you seriously considering a Z32 again? I know of a nice manual slicktop thats not actively looking for a new home but if a potential good owner were looking then the keys might be handed over?

350z for me every time, had one for 2 years before I totalled it. Great fun, good spec and IMO sounds great. Mine had been tinkered a bit but even the standard ones are awesome. I'll upload a pic later.

Get a later one after 07 as you get more power and the engine is more tuneable, REVUP I think it's called.

s2000 for me Daffy.. love them. if I could get away with 2 seats Id have on tomorrow.

It was a while ago when I last drive one, but just brilliant....

Been in my mates S2000 and rev really high however they are really cramped inside which put me off them as thought i would have one some time therefore 350z for me NISMO version :D

It depends on your usage. The 350Z is very comfortable and has a lot of toys, but the S2000 is a pure driving machine. If you're doing a lot of motorway miles, then I'd suggest the Z, if not then the S2000.

I was undecided beforehand, now I am utterly bemused

There is a 350z with the gt spec in the colour I want on eBay at the moment. I had very nearly made my mind up, but I've always wanted to try an s2000. I don't really do motorway miles. I'm one of those rare beasts that still actually goes out for a 'drive' just for the sake of it.

This might sound obvious Daffy - but go for a test drive in both! I've heard that earlier S2000's aren't quite 'there' handling wise. I think from '04 onwards there was an upgrade to the suspension/geometry..?? Worth looking into. I've always been drawn to the S2000 as well, but after owning 2 big cube, torque-rich motors I just know it wouldn't do it for me. Unless it had a turbo fitted!! I was reading in Banzai a while back about a turbo'd S2000 - they were testing the stock internals, but ran out of boost at 700bhp - the engine seemed upto the job though! If you could find one with a dead engine (not very likely with a Honda I guess), then it could make financial sense. If you don't want to tinker too much, then it would have to be the Zed IMO.

Good luck, whichever way you swing!

mmm evo dave..really..the last 4 evos iv sseen have been driven by fat balding menopasal guy with no male chromosones

.....the grand car forum "suggest something else" prize!!! Guaranteed, when someone on a car forum asks what [we] would prefer out of car A or car B, it's not long before someone else says "Neither, what about car C???" Love it.....:tt2:

I would probably not buy a 350z or an S2000 either - but to answer the original question.....

......Of the two, I would prefer the 350z. The S2000 is a very good and capable car; and if you want a fast(ish) reliable open top sports car, go for it. The 350z (and I presume you're looking at the coupe, not the 'vert) is a faster and more muscular GT car but with decent handling and plenty of power; if you go for the later versions with over 300bhp. Word of warning though - with the 350z, make sure you go for a pre March 2006 model otherwise be prepared to fork out well over £400 for the road tax each year!!

I say the 350z not just because I prefer it of the two; but you came out of a 300zx which you liked, into an MR2 which "isn't doing it for you." For me the s2000 is as comparable to your MR2, as the 350z is to your 300zx..... Just a thought mate!!
