I like splitting opinions with my Z so I'll try it again lol... :shifty:

I've always been a fan of screamer pipes but there is no 'off the shelf' set for the Z. I'll be fitting a pair of Greddy turbos soon so going to get some split dump pipes and get the wastegate side adapted into an open pipe... looking forward to trying it out and excited about the noise on full boost...

Anyone else done similar or have any opinions on the case? Its something I will be doing in the next couple of months unless someone seriously talks me out of it :ninja:

If you dont know what a screamer pipe is, watch this GTR vid, mmmm eargasm lol:-

I want screamer pipes so badly!!! That sounds insane!!

yay I'm not alone lol :nana2:

My skyline had an external gate with a screamer and the sound was epic, as was the external gate and screamer in my s13, however divorced vent to atmosphere downpipes sound crap, just don't do it, sounds like a exhaust gasket has gone

So you suggesting get the standard wastegates welded up and go for external wastegates with a screamer setup?

hmm not quite my cup of tea - as said above it sounds like there's a hole in the exhaust or a loose pipe somewhere! plus you can't hear the whistle of the turbo's on full chat - for me that's what it's all about. just my 2p :D

never looked into external wastegates before. That'll mean custom manifolds I assume?

LOL! If I had those it would be the coolest thing ever for about 5 mins, then I would have to weld them into the downpipes as it would annoy the hell out of me!!

a mate of mine went on and on about getting one on his Soarer and when he did his single T4 conversion the mandatory screamer pipe went on..... they do attract a lot of attention.. good and bad....

three weeks later he wanted it off.... not to everyone's taste... :)

best advice I can give it, either drive one with them on first or be prepared to remove them...

was up at my mechanic a while back and he had just made and fitted a custom set of screamer pipes to an evo he done sounded great

That will be the same guy i was talking to today? James at JN? funny thing is the evo was in agian today when i was there. Last time the diff was shot, so he fixed that and 80 miles later the gearbox was shot!! but 600bhp will do that.

Sooo true. it would be good for a day and then it would be like FFS!!!!!! aaaaahhhhhhh

I fitted a induction kit on my mivic fto. It sounded fantastic loved it to bits. on mivic it sounded 100x better than that skyline. went to work about 10 miles away still buzzin. then on the way home about 2 miles in i pulled in a layby and put the oem one back on :lol:

Yeah mate same guy worked on my zeds for years now

Think this is one of them each to there own mods, some like there cafr to be quiet unless really giving it some and others well they like screamer pipes!! I can't wait for the zed to be mot'd then i can start sorting out the car before the winter rebuild. Which will include a set of screamer pipes!

I belive theres two ways to do it baz, the cheap way which involes cutting and welding the downpipe. And the the external wastegate way. The former sounds like a huge boost leak the latter makes the jet engine noise you want.

hmmm. Dont think I want the expense and hassle of external wastegates, yet. Might go with Plan A, we shall see.

No no no!!

The only point whatsoever with screamer pipes is that they are to be used with larger turbos such as the Greddy TD05/06 range that are designed without any internal wastegate & HAVE to run an external one

Sticking one on a stock turbo with an internal wastegate will have several issues -

a) the wastegate is part of the turbo outlet for the exhaust - you will need to modify a divorced type downpipe & will have to make sure you have a complete gas tight seal around the wastegate or you will just have a constant "exhaust leak" pipe rather than a "screamer" pipe

b) as a smaller type internal wastegate it will probably sound cack (not just cool but annoying after 5 mins but really cack!)

c) as screamer pipes were only designed for race applications for cars running external wastegates, you will now be in the same league as people that fit electric "dump" valves to non turbo cars thinking its cool

d) because of © above this will now be a very Barry thing to do - people will come to 300zx.co.uk from all over the world to mock the zed community here in the UK

e) as a result of (d) above the price of zeds will plummet, as opposed to the gradual increase that many owners have been commenting on recently

f) for most of the reasons above many current zed owners will abandon the 300zx.co.uk website, many will sell up while others may contemplate suicide

there are probably other reasons but I think there is enough good reason there not to fit them to stock tubs!!
