Neutral position sensor

Just out of interest, the documentation says that the manual cars have a neutral position sensor on the gearbox. Does anyone know what the purpose of this sensor is? I have noticed that when you put the car in gear, the revs do raise slightly. However, if this is all it does, what's the bloody point?!

Just to satisfy my curiosity that's all.

It affects the HICAS in some way, othwer than that I cant remember, on the autos it stops you from starting it in gear, well, never tried bit of a stupid thing to do tbh wink.gif

It will be for the cruise control too, so if the car is knocked out of gear the cruise control will turn off.

If it didnt it will just red line, because it will keep adding power to maintain speed. No gear, no speed.

Cruise control doesn't use the sensor - there are warnings plastered all over TT net about not pulling the car out of gear - the Cruise uses the clutch swith to disable so in theory doesn't need to use the box. Only a muppet would pull the car out of gear anyway wink.gif

Well that could explain why my cruise control doesn't work, becuase my neutral switch appears to be disfunctional (according to the Techtom)

Andy, you've just converted from auto to manual haven't you? Did you change the CC box too? The manual CC uses the clutch switch etc and the auto version presumably substitutes this for something else???

Yep, all that was done and is all connected up as it should be. Pretty certain that this is something to do with the neutral switch now. Will look into it at some point, but as I've only used the cruise about 4 times since owning the car it's hardly a priority.
