Hi all, my name is Steve and I am currently NOT the owner of a 300zx!!!! I will be buying one during the summer but thought it would be a good idea to get started on finding a good un. I have been interested in 300Zx's for ages now and nearly bought one in 2004-5 but ended up with a VX220 instead. Many cars later I have decided its time for a ZX but I am very fussy. If a car rattles then its in the garage being sorted. This is what I would like, could anyone tell me how hard this could be:

Preferably in pearl white, black or yellow (dodgy colour I know), possibly gun metal grey

Targa Top

Twin Turbo

2+2

Slightly modified, exhaust, BOV, splitters maybe

nice interior, nothing too dated

Prefer manual

...and thats it really. I will have a budget of about £5,000 but would obviously like it cheaper if poss.

anyway I will have a look around the forum and see what I can. I may ask questions and I hope that although I dont own one you will accept me in...I want to buy a good un and so this is why I have started now and joined you guys.

welcome fella you have come to the right place, plenty of help and info from members, good luck with your search

Hi Steve and welcome to the forum, its a good idea to sign up early and get to know these cars beforehand!

Your ideal Z shouldnt be too hard to find, all the 2+2 models are targa tops, if you go for a UK model they are all twin turbos, and there are always manuals kicking about. My Z fits your shopping list perfectly, but its not for sale lol :)

Not really but would be nice to take the kids out occasionally. My partner says 2 seat because she wants it to be MY car as we have a family car...so not dead set but mainly for practical reasons. Are the SWB any better performance or handling wise or are they harder being shorter in length?

Well they are lighter, which does improve performance but you wouldnt really notice it in straight line speed. Its said that the SWB cars handle better, slicktops are certainly stiffer due to having a fixed roof however there have been endless arguments till people are blue in face (fingers in this case!) about this subject as you might imagine.

Having owned both, my slicktop is the quicker car and also handles better than the LWB I had. The slicktop is now on coilovers, but even when it was on mis matched springs and standard leaky shocks it was better than my LWB which was also on standard leaky shocks but at least it had matched springs!

Its really down to what you want from the car, thre isnt much between them in looks either I must admit it just depends which way the wind is blowing as to which I think look better, its really more the modifications (or lack of in most cases) which make the cars look better or worse to me!
