full tank 300 miles ish and about 70-80 to fill. Cars basically do around 20mpg. Not really an everyday car if you dont wanna spend some cash on fuel. Doesnt bother me too much i have 3 zeds and a truck plus getting a bike things like fuel prices dont come into my head. You only live once and if you wanna wait around all your life to own a sports car then you have missed out.

Insurance should be cheaper than that on classic have you tried Lynbrook also try to put a limit on the mileage should bring it down.

ok well i cannnnn get around 30mpg on a motorway/dual carrageway cruise. (we dont have any motorways in dorset) i would say on adverage i get around 20mpg it WILL drop into single figures should you decide to boot it. as for insurance shop round ALOT more im 26 im currently paying £700 normal car insurance and have had a classic policy quote of less than £150 you will need a daily driver to get an insurance policy like that however. mine is a twin turbo model so they are a little juicer round town but better on a run, also you may even find it cheaper to insure a tt. its cheaper for me to insure the zed than a fiesta! statistics friend. where about do you live? na are alot easier to get your head round mechanically and do tend to be more reliable.

Just remember that this is a 20yr old 3l v6. The price of fuel will likely become the least of ur worries.

Hi Mojo these cars drink petrol at a fast rate and if you are worried about filling it to keep you on the road then its maybe not the car for you. Many members here have them for a toys for the weekend or meets and drive more economical cars every day. So you would need two cars to make it work or be prepared for big fuel bills.

no way well ive had my licence for about 3 months now and live in leicestershire (so not that bad of an area i guess) ive allways wanted this car but because i own 2 bikes and this car going to be my daily drive around, 300 miles ant that bad i guess since all im doing is going to the misses and uni thats all really ill be using it for.

lol this car you saying can reach single figures LOLL thats crazy.

no other insurance company beside classic will insure me because im getting quotes something stupid like 3k lol Fudge that

but i thought for a first car (my own policy) thats good because i was lucky with this insurance company because thay say you need a years driving experence.

but 300miles to the tank (80 quid) would you say is standard now

ahh no i ant worries about fuel its just so i have a rough idea weatha i should keep going to all these uni su bars or cut it down a little loll :)

for the conversions, upgrades im going to wait 6-9 mths before i cosmetically change the car just so if the car does fail on me ive not lost loads of money in recouping it in the sale,

seen my m8s fto, he pumped 600 quid to find out he had to change all the hydrallic liftersin it then the belts to the car and he got so fed up with it he sold it within 1 mth of owning it, just learning from his mistakes

Just be wary of the 300ml to a tank quotes, yes the cars can get that quite easily, mine has on quite a few occasions. This does tend to be on longer runs though on open roads, if you are running the car as a daily driver in towns and doing lots of short journeys then I would expect the mpg to drop considerably.

Welcome to the club my friend....

....firstly with fuel consumption, 300 miles from a tank on a twin turbo is exceptional!! Think more like 250 miles max on average between fill-ups (65 litres = £94.25 for super unleaded at £1.45 per litre) and you won't be disappointed. Anyone getting 300 miles is not giving in to temptation mate!!

...Secondly, classic insurance is your best bet if you can; try Footman James (dave@fj on here) or Lynbrooks as already said - they will give you a decent quote for a limited mileage policy. But you will need to have either a company car or another daily driver to qualify for classic insurance.

.....Finally, buy the nicest example of a 300zx that you can for the money. Regardless of whether it's a manual/auto/LWB/SWB etc etc.

Good luck in your search mate - and if you've any questions just ask!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I use mine a daily drive, i put in £60 - 70 a week and go everywhere, at least 30miles per day. I think that is alright.

zeds+ fuel, =bad, with the price of fuel at the moment its harsh, but once you start driving the zed, forget about it, the joy factor overtakes the price of fuel, when driving around in a zed just look at the looks you get, or stupid little corsa's wanting to have a go. just smile and put your foot down, sure, you will destroy them, and waste loads of fuel but thats all the fun...its all part of the game

What he said, don't think that these are cheap/easy to maintain most garages don't want to know if it's anything more than a service, they are heavy on fuel and repair bills can be frightening but if you love cars and driving in general the z32 will get you totaly hooked from the first turn of the key. But defiantly do your homework first and buy the best one you can afford as it will save you money in the long run.

In my opinion if you want cheapish and reliable go for the n/a there's a whole lot less to go wrong and more space under the bonnet when they do, you won't get the same rush as the twin tubs but they definitely ain't no slouch and I'd guess would be slightly more wallet friendly at the pumps

Im still selling one, dropped to £800 12 months mot good condition etc etc

If you are worried about the price of fuel then this really isn't the car for you, these cars where built at a time when petrol in the UK was just 56p a litre so back then being economical wasn't a issue, but your real problem will come from maintenance, it can get very expensive very fast and unlike an FTO most garages haven't got a clue about the workings of a zed, they really are not for the faint of heart or shallow pockets.

But if you really want to know, id ignore the 20mpg comments and actually look at a more modest 14mpg, having owned 5 zeds, 2 auto's and 3 manuals, 1 N/A and 4 twin turbos, 2 got broken for parts the other 3 were on the road at some time or another, i was getting roughly 15 to 16mpg with my N/A, with my current one being a daily driver, im averaging 14mpg in safety boost. my last twin turbo was pushing 16psi and i was still averaging around 15mpg with that one. and that is with a bit of spirited driving here and there. on a motor way cruise you can get around 25 to 28 mpg if you dont play silly buggers.

He is after a NA guys.

Typical fuel mpg quoted by most Na owners over the years is 20-24mpg....and up to 30mpg on long cruises. There are lots of online mpg calculators you can use if you want to work out what that will cost you over your typical journey.

You cant really go using a Z on Safety mode as an example of typical economy. Its basically chucking fuel down the bores on Rich fuel maps. Same for a Twin Turbo example on 16psi, where the injectors are over 100% duty every time you floor it.

Try these companies, they have all given members here good quotes:

footman james/Graham Sykes/Sky insurance/heritage/swinton/Lynbrook/Houghtons/Broadsure/sureterm/MCE

Sureterm gave me the best quote of the ones i have tried from that list so far.

Good luck!:sorcerer:

well im guessing its on safety, due to the fact my car will not do above 7psi on boost, though i have no error codes on the ECU and no one seems to have a definitive list of what sticks your car in safety mode.

But my N/A was doing 15 to 16mpg, that doesnt have safety boost and only had the usual stuff like decat exhaust and air filter, no modded ecu or engine mods.

Hi mate bigjim is selling a cracking looking n/a manual for 2k definitely worth a look imo!!

having owned 5 zeds' date=' 2 auto's and 3 manuals, 1 N/A and 4 twin turbos, 2 got broken for parts the other 3 were on the road at some time or another [/quote']

Just to put it in perspective for you mate? Ian, how many of these 5 examples did you have no problems with? By that I mean ones that you didn't have to work on or spend money on to get running normally?

1500 is cheap for a car like the zed, i honestly dont think you can go faster for less (4 wheels that is) but rest assured that you WILL spend more than this on your car regularly... Whether that is the inevitable stuff like petrol and insurance or the likely repairs and ongoing maintenance costs.

As mentioned above, if you are asking the question about economy and fuel costs, then you will be forever diss appointed with the amount they cost as a daily driver and it is probably the wrong car for your situation. However they are the most awesome fun to drive, they are pretty rapid, stunning to look at, and 9 times out of 10 they are the coolest car in the vicinity.

Only 1 out of 5 worked from the moment i brought it lol

The N/A blew 2 conrods just down the road after purchase so i had to replace the engine, the black tt had two blown turbo's so got broken for parts, my cherry red one although drive-able from the word go and admittedly the best one out of the 5, still needed fixing but not to the point it was a MOT failure, then i had a rosso red one that was again beyond repair, and my bayside blue zed that i current have now, required a new engine and a fuse for the gearbox.

So to say these cars have tested my loyalty is a understatement, but ive persevered and still have one thats on the road :D

ahh no i ant worries about fuel its just so i have a rough idea weatha i should keep going to all these uni su bars or cut it down a little loll :)

Excellent
