Oil??

Ok guys, what oil are you using in your zeds?? Looking at Mobil 1 as it's a good oil and i can get it at cost from work. But really just after the spec you are using e.g 10w40, 5w40?

Featured Replies

10w40 for stock to mildly modified

10w60 for Highly Modified (much larger turbos)

5w40 for winter

As said before mate - it's the second number (the "40" bit) that is most important as it indicates the ability of the oil to remain in grade when hot....

.....so 0w40, 5w40 and 10w40 are all the same once up to full temperature; the first number is just the viscocity when cold - the lower the number the faster it circulates in harsh winter conditions. So the general advice is to use a decent fully synthetic oil in a normal TT engine; hence Mobil-1 should be just fine!

Although I previously found that Mobil-1 0w40 didn't quite make the same oil pressure when hot in my old Mk3 Supra, but switching to Castrol edge 0w40 or Shell Helix 5w40 improved it a lot.....

....hence I have not tried Mobil-1 in my ZX yet!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

ah richard iv just done a service and used 5w-40 is tat the reason im getting slightly lower iol presser readings untill it heats up?

Good to know, I think i can get hold of the Shell oil aswell. Will make a decision on monday. Always good to know what is being used in other zeds.

Castrol edge 5w40 fully synthetic in mine.....£35 from Asda Home at the moment!, going to get some more tomorrow at that price :)

Thankfully i work for a large motor factors so i never pay much for parts etc, don't think i could go back to paying £35 for oil!!

I've tried 10-40, 5-40, 0-40, 10-60. 40 grade tend to become hot fast. Like when you drive or have driven the car. Can qickly go up to 100 degress or more. 60 take a lot more time before it becomes hot like 40. The temp is more stable than the 40 grade.

For a stock engine og chiped (14psi) then grade 40 would be fine. For a more modifided engine (bigger turbo, injectors etc) then I'd try grade 50 og 60.I will try grade 50 next time. 60 took to long to reach a good temp. (good for track driving tough)
