I'll be doing a trackday at Cadwell Park on Sunday 18th March. It's quite reasonable at £149 for the day so wondered if anyone else fancy's it :) It really is a beautiful circuit and very technical to drive.

I'm using it as a test for Time Attack as that's the first round in May so why not come and see what you can do a lap in and compare that to what they manage in a couple of months time :)

That's a shame, I'm away that weekend, looking at dates in April though.

Are you signed up to TA now? Doing the whole year or just a few events?

Who is it with mate?

Tempted...

Best track in the Uk imo.

I booked it through these http://www.trackdays.co.uk/ not sure who the organiser is. I agree fantastic track for both bikes and cars and a really nice venue too.

Not going to do the whole season probably just cadwell and brands. Will do TOTB11 as well and maybe the odd quarter to practice for TOTB. If the car's still whole will probably do a few more we shall see lol

London Capetown 2012 052 (Large).jpgSo today at Cadwell Park............................................................

was a good day. Very few cars on track. In fact it was like having a private test day for a few friends.

Weather was dry all day although the track was damp and a bit slippy up to lunch break.

in trhe afternoon the sun came out and coupled with the wind the conditions were perfect.

With only me and Bob there I could sit in as passenger as much as I wanted . I lost count of the laps we did.

The car is runnning beautifully and for a road based car it handles and brakes really well.

top speed along the two shortish straights was around 140 in the damp morning session rising to 150-160 in the afternoon. difficult to be precise from the passenger seat.

Trying to take pics at speed with a cheap didital pocket camera doesnt really work but Bob had the in car video cam running and will probably post up some footage whan he gets time later this week. We might be able to see some estimated lap times for comparison with Time Attack cars too.

Its very difficult to judge how fast the car is in the real world of track days. We were well beaten by a Scooby today BUT with 480BHP, four wheel drive and a weight of 1100kg we were going to be. Oh its not a road car either..

i think Bob will enter the Cadwell round but in the meantime i have a few jobs to do on the car under the heading "general fettling". I also need to change the rear pads and maybe discs as we wore them down to the metal today:w00t:

A quick update for the day. As Pete said very few cars on track so the car managed a total of approx 80 miles on the track and about £140 of fuel was used too. The morning was wet to start but drying out by around two thirty in the afternoon. I was using pilot sports so while not great for the track generally they did suit the damp conditions. Here's a link to the scooby that Pete was talking about http://www.scoobyclinic.com/team_scoobyclinic.htm and yes we were well beaten but not embarrassed in the greater scheme of things :) When it dryed up in the afternoon and the 4x4 advantage was reduced I wanted to have a go but was not to be as their driveshaft broke. I was satisfied that we managed to leave a prepped impreza for dust but it was probably the apprentice driving at the time so i won't make a meal of it lol. Despite only wearing road tyres i managed around 1.45 lap times during the later afternoon. That compares well to the time attack clubman rear wheel drive lap record of 1.41 done in the middle of summer with R888 so I am happy that we will be competitive.

If i find the time i will upload some footage however it won't be this week as mega busy.

Putting this in to perspective you have to bear in mind that this is a road car and full of compromises. MOT needed shortly but it's taxed and insured and (clutch apart lol) drives on the road beautifully. When the scooby clinic car and some of the other cars came into the paddock they were surrounded by a team of mechanics and helpers wheels off changing boost new bits here and there. Me and Pete just opened the bonnet and smiled while drinking coffee and the occasional bite to eat. Yes of course after every event there will be work to do and depending on how much cash I've got spare at the time will measure how hard I can push and break it.

I'm confident that this particular 20 year old car is going to be competitive and while my main focus is TOTB I'd like to see how we fare at time attack too.

glad it went well, 1:45 is actually very good! The club RWD for 2011 on the P-zero tires was 1:45.144, and they were road tires rather than semi-slicks. Very promising results - well done.

London Capetown 2012 057 (Large).jpgSo I have been busy cleaning and polishing today. Stripped out the rear brakes on one side. New discs and pads are now on order.

EBC grooved from luke at Z centre. Ferodo DS3000 race spec pads from a Ferodo specialist..

Front pads have plenty of meat on them.the discs are as new.

Alll 4 Michelin Pilot sports are good and we will be using these as the "wet tyre" option on the Time Attack.

Toyo 888s are Bobs choice for the "dry" race option.

I am picking up a TT fan shroud from Jeff tomorrow.Fitting this weekend.

If I get time next week i hope to fit an ally front undertray to smooth out undercar airflow and channel more air thru the radiator.

So I coulnt resist posting up up a pic of a very clean and shiny Slicktop:biggrin:

here's some footage from the weekend. i have edited it quite a lot as with only a dozen cars ot was more like a test session on our own mostly :) I will be filming all events this year so hope to be able to upload something more interesting later in the year

Love everything about this car and how it is used. Thanks for sharing Bob (and Pete) and keep the updates coming.

Excellent job, guys! It feels so great to see someone representing on the road racing scene with a Z32...I hope the type II bumper w/diffuser is doing its job and helping you get the times you are shooting for ;)

Keep it up!

It's certainly doing it's job :) time attack at cadwell will see two zeds competing in May (mine and Jaffa). Looks like this year is going to be the most competitive ever with some serious cars taking part in clubman RWD so we will need to push hard to make our mark. I'll be aiming to beat last years time but I've the feeling there will be a few cars bettering it by quite a bit :) I will be making a better video for the meet. Cars ready to go all i gotta do is get there.

yes, going to be very competative this year, you're doing better than I am though, still need to swap gearbox, brakes, fix mapping issues and sort alignment!

Thanks Daffy sorry to hear about your cars demise must be a sickener

That's great! I'm building a Z32 2+2 TT for track days myself here in Peru...It currently has my type II rear bumper and I'll be making a undercarriage splitter to improve the use of the diffuser...Already have a few suspension mods installed, so I guess I'll be enjoying her soon :)

Good luck!!

So now we are .....READY TO ATTACK

Bob's car left my place today on its way back to Advanced Motorsport at Silverstone.

I have cleaned and polished it.

Fitted new Ferodo DS3000 rear pads and new discs.

Fitted a rad cowl to the Koyo. ( it was in one piece when I bought it from Jeff but it cracked during fitting.. hence the repair. LOL!)

The Michelin Pilot sports tyres are on the car as the "wet race" option and Bob was very pleased with them in the damp at Cadwell.

Dan at Advanced Motorsport is getting some new Toyo 888s which are the "dry race" option.

Once the transponder is installed the car is "good to go"

Look out Cadwell Park!!

I have no idea how competitive James(Jaffa ) and Bob will be under race conditions. What I do know is the competition/comparison between the two slicktops will be fascinating.

Who do you fancy to come out tops??????

Here are a few bits n pices on the cars/drivers.

Jaffa... younger than Bob but less experienced on track. Has lighter more extreme stripped/ lightened/caged car. Has wider wheel/tyre combo front and rear. Car not yet tested on track in final form. I sat in with James 2 years ago at Castle Combe. Itwas pretty quick but needed the handling tweeked(my opinion)

Bob. mature owner with a lifetimes experience of fast cars and bikes(probably fast women too!!)

Car is fully trimmed inside with no lightweight panels. Has been extensively track tested over the past year. I have spent loads of time in the passenger seat.. Bob is a calm, committed driver.

Power????? Well headline figures dont mean anything on their own.

power to weight ratio is more useful and I suspect Jaffa has the edge???

Ultimately the figures dont mean a thing when the lights go out.

Its all down to how brave you are in close proximity to other hot lappers.

Remember one hot lap is all it takes:tt2:

I dont have a favorite as both drivers are friends Im just itching to get there....
