as much as its fun to get the tail out. theres time when you want to move . like when your fightin to keep it straight and a corsa is pulling away! it might be down to the conditions on the roads at the mo, but its just got me wondering about possible gains with traction improvement. since the diff clutch and gearbox plus all the lighter pulley stuff ,i really feel the z power but alot of its wasted through the poor grip. my tyres are 9and 3/4 inch wide all round at present.

could be a simple matter of not enough weight on the back wheels to handle the power. are they directional tyres? ive got avon zz3's on mine and they grip like shit to a blanket.

Standard wheels are crap regardless of the tyres once you have upped the power of the car.

bigger wider wheels are imo a must for ya.

i've done na diff and subframe swap spoiler removed ,wiper and boot lid weight. so could be that then. if i go for some heavy wheels would that be the way to go?

Or stop racing.

I'll admit, my Zed scares the sh!t out of me on damp/greasy roads. Proper wet or proper dry is no problem but anywhere inbetween's interesting. I got 'coffee beans' yesteday for actually managing to avoid sideswiping the guy next to me when I hit a greasy spot coming off a roundabout. I guess he thought I was 'showboating', I wasn't but my trousers will never be the same!

I won't ever buy the tyres that are on mine again, They are awfull, (Conti Sports), I had Dunlops on before and they were incredible!

Conti,s are good when they are new but as soon as you get down to about 3to 4 mm they seem to glaze and become slippery, I am using Bridgestone on the rear and falkens on the front and it seems to stick to the road quite well in all conditions, and I dont rate Perrilli at all either,on my calibra I used to have Goodyear GSD3 Eagle F1's on all four but after trying the bridgestone on my old vectra thats all that I am putting on the Zed

if i go for some heavy wheels would that be the way to go?

No, you need the weight on top of the wheel to push the tyre into the tarmac, if you go for heavy wheels the braking and handling will suffer.

What kind of power is your car running? Have you had the suspension geometry looked at? Reason I ask is if all the wheels are pointing in different directions you might find your very wide tyres are not making that much contact...

Reason being is that mine running @ 1bar of boost decat etc is very well behaved on Falken 452's which are a mid range tyre at best!

Big spoiler and lots of pace

You see officer, I had to be doing 100mph, any slower and I would have crashed! :D

gonna go for dyno to find out what power is. so i'm not gonna guess. suppose i could do with a really dry day for a start. !!!!! probably not the time of year to be driving the z

My Mum has racelogic traction control in her s14a, When properly set up a rwd car can more than compete with turbo 4x4 cars in the wet.

On the track (obviously)

After a near miss last week I am considering a nice warm safety blanket I can turn on in the winter months.

my mum has racelogic traction control in her s14a,

WTF?

sorry thought you said your mum has an s14a with traction control for a minute there :sweatdrop:

I did. Engine Bling/ 8pot calipers/coilovers etc etc etc. Never been so scared sitting next to her in it when she boots it

Weight in the boot is the way lol!!!! I have shockingly bad tyres on. they have the worst reviews on the net and they gripped ok ish but you can never trust the rear end. Its what came with the new alloys and they should not of been sold imo.

A few weeks back i took my boot build out and in the dry it wheel spins in 4th gear if you push it, With the boot build it could spin in 3rd in the wets. I also felt the car was more balanced lol

Have you considered that you may just need to feed the power in more progressively? lol Try lowering your tyre pressures too. At the end of the day, it's the nature of the beast.
