Falken are a very good mid range tyre but may be a bit more than £70 (made by Dunlop)

Budget wise - next one down is Matador ( made by Continental) or Kumho

Nankang or Primewell ok as budgets go but dont expect too much from them LOL!

DO NOT put budget Tires on a zed it aint worth it

That goes for any time of the year, but especially this time of the year.

I had matadors on mine. They weren't up to much. Ok in the dry but no good in the wet. Got goodyears on now and you can really tell the difference

Maxxis tyres are good and cheaper than falken but your still looking at 90 a pop but do not put 50quid tyres on there shite and u will kill your self ...

Im talking about the fronts i always put good new tyres ( falken 452) or( kuhmo) on the rears .

I agree. They are the only contact between you and the road; don't skimp on poor quality tyres!!

If funds are an issue, perhaps try and get some reasonable part worns - otherwise stick with a tried and tested brand.

I would avoid part worns - a lot come from crash damaged write off vehicles that may have had damage to the tyres when the vehicle has locked up or slid into something!!

There was a report saying that many tyres sold as part worn were not fit for use (even though they looked physically good on the outside)!!

Whilst I'll admit to doing the same thing last year, when I needed to get it through an MOT while I was skint, with the intention of replacing them soon after and keeping the cheapies as spares, I regretted it heavily!

The cheap tyre garage screwed my alloys on the front and the tyres were utterly crap! I'd be turning a corner, not at great speed either, and I'd feel them slip. Fronts are just as important as rears, especially when the fronts are not actually the driving force, no grip at the front in a rear wheel drive car = sliding forwards when you intend to turn, even more so if you've got really good tyres on the back which can keep pushing when the fronts let go :(

Sounds good advice there Paul - personally I'd never buy cheap brands or part worns....

.....I only buy brand new premium makes; SLK runs on Conti MO fitments, the ZX on Contis/Goodyears/Bridgestones/Dunlops and Julia's Rav on Bridgestone Duellers.

Yes, it's expensive but that's how much I value our lives!!!

However I have driven my ZX on crap tyres - my red one had new Avons when I bought it and they were terrible in anything other than warm dry conditions:ohmy:

Hence I (possibly mistakenly) thought that if funds were tight for someone, then perhaps part worns of a premium brand might be better than some dodgy Wanli or Linlong rubbish.......

I've used part worns before (not on the Zed) and they've been ok. I thought a lot of them came in from Germany as they're not allow to fix any punctures on tyres what-so-ever.

Try 'nexen' I've had 3 full sets on the Z and found them to be a cheaper, but quality tyre. I've got them on the Rear of my E320 too and that does 500 miles a week...

On any car the front tyres ARE the most important tyres.im not saying neglect the rears but its much easier to control a rear end break away than front end understeer. You always keep your best tyres on the steered axle.I know staggered fitments and 4wd vehicles dont always allow this but this is the rule.

.......... has anyone ever bought a second-hand car?..... they usually come pre-fitted with part worn tyres! lol!

Most of us won't remove them immediately and fit brand-new so that we can be safe in the knowledge that we don't have tyres with a dodgy history to them......... a set of top brand part worns might be a better bet than brand new budgets or mid-rangers.... you pay your money and take your choice

Do you buy a car that's been crashed though? Avoid part worns and cheap tyres. I've nearly lost a zed coming off a roundabout in the wet which was on cheap tyres when I first got it. That day I knew never to skimp on tyres and don't own a lwb lol in the wet is when they are most lethal even accelerating in a straight line you could have the back end step out your choicr

Do you buy a car that's been crashed though? ..................

... Not knowingly.... but many have been crashed and bought... though I'm not sure I follow... I'm not advocating buying crashed cars...

I reckon if you gave people on here who were on a tight budget the option of a set of, for example - 6+mm part worn Michelins or Goodyears versus brand new Wanlis, Linglongs or some other cheap tyres many would go for the quality brand. I would too if I was in that position.

I totally agree with your point about cheap tyres and safety. But if a car buyer wants the best assurance they can have that the car they are buying has good tyres (quality and condition)- then they'd have to have brand new fitted themselves when they buy the car- even if it's got a set of 6mm+ Michelins etc already!

Coz who knows if the tyres have been kirbed, potholed and are internally damaged etc etc. But who is going to change a set like that?.......no-one! so the car is nearly always driven around on it's already fitted Part Worns!

Part worns are a personal choice and you get part worn junk and part worn quality

people dont just take part worn tyres off their car for no reason especially ones like pilot sports at over £200 each. Who in their right mind would be changing at 6mm so there most probably is some reason why they have come off like a written off vehicle

You'd be surprised at the answer to that I think, but in short, rich people. Mikey works for Kiwk Fit atm as most of you know, he's forever talking about the 'porsche' driver, or the 'merc' driver, who came in that day and had some eagle F1s on with 6mm of tread and just said 'change em'. Although, I agree that if you're buying part worns from a back street garage, it's likely the car was in an accident, or at the very least, broken for parts for some reason.

There you go.......... people do change them! My mate has a tyre place and the above happens a lot more often than you'd think. But surely even a set of Pilots or F1s or Pzeros from a flood damaged written off Porsche etc would be a good bet. I'm not talking about part worns that are well past their best

Got Nexen's on the road car and have been great general use tyres, but if you want mega grip use Toyos TR1 for mileage and grip or R888 for "sticks like s*** to a blanket"
