I nearly done conversion fron n/a to tt and now i am thinking is the insurnve will be cheaper n/a import than tt uk model. What insurance groupes they got?

Featured Replies

both Cars are group 18, so it makes no difference in insurance ways,My 96 N/A was costing me 600 fully comp tyhat was on a standard policy,my tt is costing me 390 fully comp because it is 20 years old,but if i had a 96 tt it would cost me the same as my N/A

I will stick my neck out and say that if the car has been converted from a n/a to a tt it will actually cost more to insure than a tt from the factory as it will, in the eyes of the insurance company, be modified from its oe spec.

But the point is i am not ganna tell insurance company about conversion. Its will be just n/a with 400bhp+ lol

Thats all well and good until you have an accident, the insurance company find out its a twin turbo (not to mention police collision investigators), your insurance is invalid and you find yourself in a world of hurt!.

I wouldnt advise that mate,as god forbid you crash or someone crashes into you insurance will not pay out when i did the v6 conversion on my calibra it was a redtop 2.0l to a 2.5v6 my insurance company just classed the car as a standard v6,so what you may find is that the insurance company will just class it as the turbo version and as both turbo and non turbo are classed as the same group insurance may not Rise in cost, but i would make sure first

You'll probably find there won't be much in it - insurance companies will hike the price because of the (perceived) higher costs in repairs...

Wouldn't go shouting about it on the internet either!

Always disclose the facts to your insurance company!

In your case though you could probably say that the car is an imported twin turbo; and then list the modifications to the car, from the normal stock TT spec. With imports they are not always registered correctly upon entry to the UK, so there is a possibility that it will just be recorded as a 300zx and nothing more.

On the cost comparison between a UK spec TT and an imported NA; whilst there are many specialist insurers who do not load the premium for imports, I bet most "normal" companies will still quote lower the UK spec even though it's more powerful than the imported NA....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

No offence here mate but thats just a stupid comment. Its people that do that and other stuff that make insurance premiums higher. Knowingly doing it is also classed as insurance fraud!

i would say that an na will be more expensive im sure ive been told by a chap who works in insurance that its that way because nas are crashe dmore blah blah blah. more *****x excuses. but i also agree your na moded to a tt will cost more as they will declare it as a modified na. which technically it is. i know this because when i had my capri i looked at throwing a 2.8 lump in it from a 2.8i but as it was a 2.0 from factory it was going to cost twice the price for what it would to insure a genuine from factory 2.8. your best bet is to declare the orginal tt. so that you have effectivily and with vosas knowlegde reshelled the tt car. i wouldnt advise not declaring your swap, if it was something like you had change dthe internals of the na then i would be turning ablind eye as if they had to investoigate in that much detail you would likley be dead in any event. or in serious shit that would make the other bit irrelivant. however the tt engine sitting in there is a bit how do they say in france......... er...........obvious.
