On my way to the station the car stalled at a junction (does this when it is very cold) but would not start again.

I think it has something to do with the fuel pump as I cannot hear it activating when I turn the ignition. I am hoping it is a fuse or relay but if it is the pump whereabouts is it and is it easy to replace?

Is there fuel in it?

in all seriousness, I'm not taking the mick, I had this with my old Freelander, the fuel gauge stuck and I thought that I had 1/4 of a tank but it was in fact empty.....I only realised when I got one of the lads in work to take a look at it

fuel pump fairly easy in the boot

fuse under bonnet in the small fuse panel by the brake reservoir

It had 3/4 of a tank in it on Saturday but I didn't look at the gauge so will add that to the list of things to check

Is there a relay I need to look at as well as the fuse?

Green one I think,

behind the fuse cover/panel at the bottom of the drivers footwell.

Check fuel pump ECU behind left hand rear armrest panel as you sit in it, had mine go

There is a fuel pump fuse in the small fusebox under the bonnet, on drivers side in the corner of the inner wing. :)

Checked the fuse and thats OK so its either the pump or the ECU.

Any clues as to how I tell which it is ?

Anyone got a pump and ECU for sale ?

This also happened to me in my Corrado before...

Sounds like something simple, and very unlikely the fuel pump, check around the engine for the frequent bad connection issues such as Temp Sensor, PTU, CAS Unit etc. also may have just flooded.

So try removing the fuel pump fuse, ( fuse by brake master cylinder) turn the engine over with foot flat down on the throttle, keep the engine turning for 5 to 8 second, pause and do the same again, try this 3 times and then turn the ignition off. Replace the fuse and then restart keep your foot of the throttle until it starts.

Keep us updated matey.

Thanks for the tips, tried to PM you but it says your mailbox is full.

It failed on me this morning and I tried it tonight got the same. I will have to take the wifes car to it as I have tried to get it going so much the battery is running flat.

I usually got a whirring noise from the back of the car when I turned the ignition before it turned over. I always assumed it was the fuel pump priming the lines. I do not get that any more, hence thinking it was fuel pump.

I will look at the connectors and see, otherwise I might call the AA and get them to earn the subscription..

A Very nice AA man (subcontractor) came and had alook at the car this evening. After checking for fuel getting to the engine bay, found nothing getting to the filter inlet.

Quick lookm for the pump but couldn't find it, so called his mate in Daventry who owned a Zed (someone from here ?).

Think it is under a load of sound deadening so going to have fun removing that. Already cut fingers from trying for a minute or two.

Where abouts is the pump ? Is it easy to get to ?

Jeff - Can you give me a price for a pump please (email sent as well)

As said, pump is accesible through the boot floor.Remove the carpet, sound felt etc and you will see the access plate.I would deffo try for a feed at the pump before condeming it tho'

Yes no problem have replied to your email with full details.

Green realy in drivers side foot panel feeds the pump, deffo worth checking it's giving a feed or even getting a feed from the ECU.

Pump itself is not really common tbh

Thanks Smithy, I will check that tonight. Jeff is sending me a pump so if it isn't the realy my weekend will be to strip the sound deadening out (without cutting my fingers to shreds like last night) and replacing the pump.

Is there an easy way to test the relay ?

Well I have changed the Relay and the pump and .... nothing ! Still won't start and I cannot hear the fuel pump initialising.

What the hell do I check now ?!?!?

It will be the fuel pump ECU that's knackered.

Simplest way to check is to bypass it.

It will allow you to have the car running until you get a replacement fuel pump ECU.

Follow the pictures on how to do the wiring bypass.

Links for wiring the LWB or SWB are at the bottom.

Thanks FireMAN999 not seen this site before. Once I get the fuse sorted, if it still won't start, I will give this a try.

Well its going again ! More parts arrived today fron Jeff (and a quick run to Zedworld for a fuse), plugged in the fuel pump ECU and it started straight away !

Thanks Jeff for the parts, excellent service as usual.
