I drive loads of cars every day, but just wondered if my Zed had 1000bhp how much quicker would it be able to acheive against standard.

My BMW X5 has 320bhp, my Merc SLK has 165bhp and my Insignia 172bhp. The little Merc is the fastest of the line, but tops at 140ish, the BMW next and tops at 150ish and the Insignia slowest at everything at 135ish.

I no weight and size make a difference but my son has a 375bhp astra that doesnt seem much faster than a standard one, so is it worth all that BHP????

its also about being able to get the power down youd prob find a 500hp well set up zed would match a 1000hp zed to 100mph although once the 1000hp zed did get traction it would leave most things behind

That is probably because the Astra has trouble putting the 375bhp through its front wheels. IIRC the torque steer on the previous Astra Turbo (with 230-ish bhp) was so bad that the car was deemed undrivable if you booted it!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Things have moved on with traction control and diffs these days. But historically fwd cars are poor over 250 bhp you get mountins of understeer. I remember my mate taking a fiesta rs with his focus 2.0l the rs owner obviously though the idea was t

I was once told that in order to double your maximum speed you need 8 times the horsepower.not sure how true that is :)
