Ok, long story short - I'm moving back into my flat at the end of this month. I still have a CRT TV there... Yes, I know. It must be banished.

It seems that if I go for a 42" full HD Plasma then I can almost afford a 3D TV. I want a plasma for the higher refresh for gaming and they have better blacks and whites. It has to be 1080p otherwise what's the point... The TV in question has great reviews on Amazon.

I hadn't planned on a 3D TV originally but I've seen a good deal with free glasses which I'm very tempted to go for if I can stretch it.

My question is does anyone here have a 3D TV (Active 3D) and is it worth it? Is it as good as the Passive 3D in the cinema?

I already have a PS3 which will play 3D Blu Rays, so I'm set to go once I have the TV, and once I buy a movie that is.

I should really be spending the money on a new boiler, or a new fence which has most likely blown away (seriously, bits were missing last time I was there, so now with this wind its probably all gone!) but that's the reason I don't already have a big modern TV as I keep having to spend the money on other things...

if you want a demo of what 3d tv is like, go into a shop and ask for a demo, its pretty damn good actually, ive got a optoma HD65 with the firmware patch to update it to 3d capable and using the optoma 3D-XL which is just stunning.

all i can say is, get a decent one and you wont be disappointed.

The TV is - PANASONIC VIERA TX-P42UT30B.

LOL - The more I read the more I convince myself!

just get it then lol, the optoma is a projector not a tv, much larger screen :D

To be honest, just wait..... tvs are gettin cheaper and cheaper and 3d is still in early stages yet, you will regret paying loads and then 6 months time it will be well out of date, 3d tv will soon have no glasses (available now) and will be a much better viewing experience

I have literally (1 hour ago) just bought a very cheap 42" 1080p 3D tv for the bedroom as I couldnt wait :) , but I`m happy as it was only £368 and hasnt broke the bank and its only for the bedroom

Just to clarify it's 42", LED backlit (so it's 3cm thick(!)), passive 3d and 5 pairs of glasses.

Best 3d player also an OPPO93

I have a PS3 but if you want pure digital 7.1 sound you need an Oppo as it has two hdmi outs which is the only player that has this function.Well chuffed with my 3D setup.64" in 3d is awsome. That tv also converts 2d into 3d as well, brill.

Finally ordered this -

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/panasonic-viera-tx-p42ut30b-42-full-hd-plasma-3d-tv-with-two-free-pairs-of-3d-glasses-11854683-pdt.html

Then noticed that my council tax hasn't come out of my account yet... Probably should call then, beg them not to take it! lol

I'm sure the TV will be great, comes on Monday.
