hi

Having owned a few classics in my time i've now decided it's time to acquire a 300ZX. It's bonus time at work as have got a couple of grand (which could be stretched a little) burning a hole in my bank account and need to find a nice TT, not fussed whether SWB or LWB and would prefer a manual one

Have had a read through the buyers guides and am still not put off although I think that's more to do with my thinking being done by my 'petrolhead' rather than my sensible head.

Any hints, tips, advice, cars that may be coming up for sale? Is it best to buy an unmolested original one or one that's had a few sensible mods already completed?

Any advice greatly appreciated

Welcome to the club, don't worry too much about it is my advice, you won't find one that needs NOTHING doing to it, even the £6k + ones need something, or more to the point, will need something soon.

It's not that expensive of a car to run either really, the main thing I've found, although others have found differently, is that if it's not your daily driver, you can spend more time on it, you're less worried about taking it apart and not being able to put it back together because of a broken part or whatever.

I get more fun out of my TT manual UK now, than I ever did when it was a daily driver. As a daily, if something wasn't quite right or there was a slight missfire, I had no real choice, but to continue driving it until I had the time/money to fix it, equally I had no real choice but to get it fixed quickly, before any real damage got done, whereas, as a garage queen, that comes out when I need her or want to drive her, she can get fixed at my leisure, properly.

rust, rust, rust check the sills they can really suffer, if thats all good just check the usual smoke, noises etc i always find it good to check the tyres if there all the same brand chances are the cars been looked after

Interesting that you say that, works one way but not the other :D My car is DEFINITELY looked after and had lots spent on it since I've owned it, but the rears are a different brand to the fronts, albeit the rears are the same tyre as each other and so are the fronts :D

Welcome along. Hope you find what you are looking for. I know of a very nice SWB tt Slicktop that will be for sale in the next few days. Depends what your budget is?

Good luck in your search, you are in the best possible place for tips and advice.

same here, Falkens on the front and Continentals on the rear (rears are run-flats)

Hello and welcome by the way :)

My jdm tt auto (soon to be a manual) is my daily drive and doesnt cost a great deal more to run than the 3.0 omega engined Calibra i had previously .As has already been said check for rust, leaky targa drains and check all the electrics etc work as they should do.Spares are easy to come by and seem to be reasonably priced, and most folks on here have parts/goodies for sale regularly plus Jeff from Zedworld is usually on hand with parts and advice etc.

have had my zed since the beginning of September and can honestly say it is the most enjoyable car i have owned.I would say look at a few before you buy one and get the best one you can find for the money you have to spend (says the man who bought his off ebay without seeing it first, but i think i dropped quite lucky).

personally i would say get one with sensible mods such as a chipped/remapped ecu, electronic boost controller etc, as it will save you buying them in the long run, and preferably find one with receipts for any work/mods that have been done. Will probably get boo'ed for this but i would avoid cars with sideskirts fitted as they can hide horrendous amounts of rot on the sills.

Hi there and welcome ,dont let the autobox put you off,I have the auto tt and it is actually quite good dont get me wrong i would of preferred a manual.Mind you I prefer the na to the tt as i have had both but just because it is an auto dont be put off,I also use my tt as a daily driver, and it has been relaible and i have a lot of fun with all the looks i get and all the boy racers

id agree i was set against an auto then i took one out for a spin and it is one of the better auto boxes out there, plus around london theres more traffic to sit in and its a god send in traffic plus there generaly cheaper to buy in the first place

does it have to be a tt? theres a nice manual swb going atm 'peach' just bumped it up for a very reasonable price

Agreed....a steal at the price he is asking for it!

welcome and if your gonna buy from a member on here then the cars most probably gonna be well than looked after
