Yes, the four dots are normally the culprit, but also check around the R10 and connectors on C2, also check board for any obvious signs of dry joints

Graham, where are R10 and C2? I can't see them on this board or mine.

Turn the board over and you will see a big resistor, thats the R10, C2 is a capacitor, actually that photo is making me sick now lol, i have a spare dash here, i will take some new photos.

God dammit! I made it worse! Now it goes crazy and won't give any speed and shoots straight to 100. If I am in 5th, anything below will register at 20, hit just under 3,000 rpm and it shoots up to 100. The mileometer is working accurately. I took it out again and can't see any crossed tracks.

Any ideas? If I got a set of JDM clocks and took the needle and face off of my UK clocks, could I swap them over? I fear something is gufukked now and not sure how to fix it?

I got a spare couple of jdm speedos knocking about you can have one if you feel yours is totaled. I use one of those desk top magnifiers with the light around it, makes a hell of a difference in spotting the tiniest of cracks or line in a board.

If it shoots straight to 100, then you might have either had too much heat for the resistor or capacitor, easy to change with the spares.

Are you personally able to repair them? Have you ever converted the JDM speedo gauge to a UK one? I am not sure how the needles would read?

I havent personally done one, its a case of changing the R10 resistor to the correct resistor, i would have to search to find the write up with the correct figure required, however i have read a few write ups and after a few adjustments it can be done. I personally wouldnt like to be responsible for your speedo lol.

It would also involve drilling a couple of holes at the top of the housing to access the potentiometer ( sp? variable resistor) to adjust to calibrate the speed with a sat nav.

Oh, screw that! I guess I'll have to buy some replacement dash clocks. Bugger!

Thanks for the info though. :)

Rich, do you have a speedo converter on the back of the dash?

And as you are an electronics genius, i have no doubt at all that you can sort it lol

Yes and errmmm probably lol

WHAT a bargain, especially since the mileage is almost spot-on correct!
