Since about the end of October I have been storing my Z in the garage, perhaps once every 3 weeks or so I am starting it up moving it out of the garage to put my other car in to clean it, once done, starting my z back up and putting it away again. Could this be causing damage to the engine?

Thanks, Dan

doubt your giving it enough time to do damage, you get increased ware from cold, but if its only for a few Min's i doubt it would be doing that much to it, i suppose if you did it for over a few years may be. might be an idea to let her warm up though when you do it to give a chance for oil to get around the system every now and then.

You would be better to take it for a spin, get it warm. Most engine wear happens in the start up before the oil has circulated. You prob wont notice any damage, I use mine all year round.

You should leave it running until it gets warm, starting it isn't what causes the harm so much, as leaving it stood for so long. When the car stands for any period of time, the oil starts to drain down to the sump, the longer it's stood, the more oil gets to the sump, the more oil that goes to the sump, the less there is in the engine, etc. Ideally, start it once a week or once a fortnight, let it warm up so the oil flows around and gets up to temp, then put her away again, that should help to stop the engine seizing at some point. Taking her out for a drive is even better, because that makes all the moving parts move, stopping things like brakes and suspension from seizing too.
