I'm not stopping at just spraying the inner dial surround :D

These will get the full treatment - silver and gunmetal grey with a ridiculous amount of lacquer and smooth strokeable finish ;p

.... yes, it's going to take a while lol ::rolleyes1:

The OCD bit. Because It is NOT an automatic and the rear wiper CAN'T go on because of the spoiler that's going on the car, I really hate seeing functional switches and displays that are not used so I have to 'delete' those too :)

Where the cruise control switch was, there is a nice bright 8mm wide beam blue LED behind it so I'd appreciate ideas on lighting that up eg with a 'NISSAN' logo. The switches are actually clear plastic when you rub them down :) Vinyll Nissan sticker / spray over/remove at the end?... sounds tricky. Cut out a hole, get some diffuser paper/and vinyl?

First fun... completely dismantled pods :)

Bit of fibreglassing.... I'm now onto a bit of body filler and more sanding.

Unfortunately the sexy little Apexi turbo timer I took a chance on ordering off Ebay that I was going to build in just doesnt work so I'm going ahead without it. :) We got half the price back off the supplier because they REALLY dont want the bad feedback, fingers crossed we can get it to work. I hope so, because even though I have to fix the 'brand new' cosmetic damage, because the digits light up in blue.

Yeah got to agree that does look smart mate. How long until it's in the car?

What do you think of the gap between the buttons on the right now it's painted? Personally, I don't think it's obvious at all it was just the harsh contrast with the primer before. How many hours work do you think this took from starting with the dash already out and sitting on your work station?

I hope to get it in the car during this week since Alex, kid and dog are away until Friday. I'm just about to order the new steering wheel aswell. I'll sort the hazard switch, but am leaving the turbo timer and 2 gauges for Alex to do at the weekend/next week ... so he can say he did something lol. :p

I started this mid/end of December, but there has been a lot of time off with Christmas, waiting for bits to turn up, and thinking about what I was doing with it. How many hours? dunno! - took 2 days to get the pods cut (melted lol), make and fit the gauge holders, body fill, sand, paint, sand paint until I was happy with it. After about 10+ coats of lacquer, the final fine sanding and polishing will have been a good 15 hours on it's own.:)

What's next?

Since the boot floor still hasnt been welded grrr, I cant get on with finishing my ICE install but I may turn my attention to the boot lid inside plastics and the outside and spoiler needs painting and fitting.

Once this lot is in the car, I dont think the yellow center console I did is going to last very long because I'll want it all matching. :)

Looks awesome! and the turbo timer fascia looks really good (wink!) Glad I had a part to play in this brill project :)

Hahah yes,... here is my saviour super star. I lost my Apexi one. Thankyou thankou thankyou so much for the replacement - I'd have been buggered without it lol :D

A day for modding again. Finally got the hazard switch working so thats another step closer. Man, that was a fiddly job to solder up!

The turbo timer is all ready just to plug in.

Now I have put Alex in charge of wiring up the two gauges.

We need a sandwich plate to finish getting the oil temperature gauge into working order but will at least have it lit up.

The Boost gauge is the only thing really holding up getting this lot installed. We are now scratching our heads on how to feed the tube through to the engine bay lol. There is already a smaller tube through that needs to come out, but tugging at either end doesnt budge it. :turned:

Ok, it's dash mutilation time!!!!!

I did say there was a requirement to cut the dash up a bit to get the turbo timer and the hazard switch in there. Done that now, and the dial surround now sits in there perfectly. Here are the before and afters to show what I have had to cut away.

The hazard switch takes up quite a bit of room behind it.

The clear plastic cover isn't in there yet because we need to test out the running position of the needle on the speedo but it's now it is snowing and dont want to take the car out of the garage!

I am also still waiting for Alex to pull his finger out and finish installing the boss/snap off kit, steering wheel, rig the boost gauge and feed power to the pods...... Anyone got a big stick?! :):hammer:

:punk::clap::hyper::hyper:

They're in!!!!

We absolutely love them. Unfortunately we have had no chance to drive the car yet so haven't tested the pods in a driving position scenario.

It was a two man job to get them in because of wanting to be so careful with them.

The horn on the steering wheel now works too. The only thing not hooked up fully is the left gauge due to waiting for the sandwich plate to turn up so it registers zero at the moment.

So So happy!

We took some pics and video with it all lit up but they were very grainy so Alex has just gone back out to re-take some including with the steering wheel on.

I think the yellow center console needs to go soon as it really looks out of place now! :)

Edited by Mrs HollowPoint

Yep that looks ace, with the black dash it really detracts from the contrast between the black buttons and grey body, love how shiny it looks as well

Apoligies, just seen your wee bit at the bottom ! Yup, it does look outta place !

Rest of it is superb !

I may have to live with the yellow a bit longer yet. I have a console to work on so the yellow one can stay in the car. I'll sell the yellow one on including it's gauges when I've done a new one. Now the digital gauges have gone in, I'll want digital in the dash too which will bump the cost. I just ordered 40 square foot of fat mat so I think the boot will be getting attention first :)

... Wonder how we are going to get on with the night time reflections though. Makes the led's look 3 times as many so suppose saves some money that way :)

Lit up like Christmas pics....

and there you go with the wheel fitted lol

It's quite difficult to get a pic truly like you see as the driver but I think the view is going to be fine. this was took with the camera just off the driver headrest.

Nice, like the colour scheme going there with the lights, surround and wheel it goes very well together. How about painting and polishing the centre console the same as the clock surround.

What is the dial light set up you have used? Are the dash lights dimmable as standard or can you fit one to reduce the glare if it's an issue?

Rose .....excellent ....loved this thread from start to finish .....whats next the ice install ?? .......a true inspiration as to what can be done just by thinking out side of the box ..........i know Funky Si would have had kittens ...but each to their own and a 100% for the effort and graft you have put in to be individual

Si seems to be getting a lot of mentions lately, clearly really being missed now, there is a big void without him around lately I've noticed.

Aye, will be doing a few things you cant see - sound deadening the eck out of the car, replacing wing mirrors etc. :)
