Been looking at ecu chip for the n/a

They say that with a free flowing exhaust and free flowing air filter i should see a 20whp gain...

Seems a heck of a gain, so is it just spin or will the new map in the chip really give me a decent gain...

Also would they be meaning 20whp gain on top of what ive already got with the filter and exhaust or all up? contemplating getting some headers next year as well.

Imagine there isnt really much more i can do beyond that to squeeze more poke out of the n/a?

What are ya running in the way of engine mods?, exhaust intake etc.

I had a JD chip, de-cat exhaust, apexi filter and lightened flywheel on my NA and had it Dyno'd at over 243 bhp .............. details in My Rides ..............

I notice it says dual mapped ecu? whats the story with that?

263 @ the wheels?!?!

Thats pretty insane for such little modding as the factory spec is only 222@the flywheel.

There was switch that could switch between the original map and the new one ............

Can't really do that from the other side of the planet unfortunately.

Any reason for having the ability to swap back to the stock map?

Perhaps he could get an ECU from here in the UK, mod it and send it to you ....???

Don't know the reason for being able to switch ...... i always had it on the new map.

Probably cost a heap i can get just the chip here for about 50 quid...

I'm still struggling to grasp how you pulled those numbers on the dyno! had you dyno'd the car prior to the chip at any point?

Had it dyno's beforehand but it had a slipping clutch ....... so the figure wasn't good ........ hence the lightened flywheel which was fitted at the same time as a new OEM clutch.

Oh ok, thanks for the info man :D

Is there much else i can really do to the n/a apart from getting a underdrive pulley?

I've already got a pod filter, full decat exhaust (headers next year), i've removed AIV, PCV, EGR, and PRVR...

Apart from porting and polishing is there really much else i can do, i assume its not worth bothering with injectors.

Sounds like you've got all bases covered there ........... but someone cleverer than me on these things might know otherwise ........... but do think about a lightened flywheel and new clutch

My auto box might be unhappy with me if i give it a clutch :crying:

I have a feeling i know the next mod you will suggest to me.

But i can buy a nissan 4.1 litre v8 that will bolt straight onto the stock Z autobox for the same price as a manual conversion...

As much as i would love to have it manual, a v8 auto would probably give me more enjoyment, alas its alot of mucking about to do the swap. decisions decisions.

Also heard many a story of manual gearboxes crunching so buying a manual conversion i don't really know what i'm getting.

I see ............... well, good luck with whichever route you go down ...........

You're giving me the disapproving get a manual look my friends give me arn't you

Do the manual conversion, ported and polished, fast road cams, headers, full exhaust, lightweight pulleys, lightweight flywheel, then lightened and balanced crank, ECU definitely a benefit on an EFI engine, a few simple things like uprated plugs, induction kit, etc. etc. You could probably crank a fair bit from an NA really.

Definitely ditch the auto though, if you're not living on the north shore and working in Auckland (Done that before, I bought a tiptronic Falcon XR6) then it's pointless. You've got some great roads around you, not least of all the 1 up to Whangerei being pretty awesome in places, you need a manual to erm, "appreciate" them better ;)
