Hey guys and girls,

I've been a member on here for a few months now just sitting in the background reading mostly, then I saw what is now my new ride for sale! Im sure loads of you recognise it as Lorenzo's! I went to look at it a few days after it was listed and decided 'I like that'! Good colour, lots of bits as well.

Anyone that read the for sale thread knows the engine is shot so i've got a few ideas in mind to sort it.

1. Send it to Zedworld for an engine swap or rebuild

2. Swap it myself

3. Get someone local to sort it

4. Rebuild the engine myself

For now the car is being stored at my girlfriends house in Norwich and I have use of the workshop if I want to pull it apart but im working in Beaconsfield until after New Year and no cash until its out the way either.

Ideally i'd like the challenge of rebuilding it myself but I know its not exactly going to be easy but I will get there eventually then take it to Jeff for a check over.

I'll be at the Zedworld bash to say hi and check out what everyone has done to theirs at the weekend, see you there!:w00t:

Welcome Eggs, you've got a cracking Z there, always loved it! Certainly looks like its gone to a good home, was hoping it wasnt going to get broken up! You are at the right place, loads of good advice on tap here :thumbup1:

Welcome. I did what you've just done this time last year.

I bought a secondhand engine and spent the winter with a mate swopping it over.

Long story short, was a ball ache and the new engine was scrap! £2000 down i wish i'd done things differntly!

Zedworld will give you a warrenty on a engine swop, i'd do that myself mate.

Hope this helps.

NORWICH /.///// NORWICH how dare you bring a SWB round here, im the SWB TT daddy in this area.

:-)

Cheers dude, yep definately not going to be broken up its a keeper! Needs to be fixed and tidied up a bit and that hideous engine bay and underside of the bonnet needs spraying blue as its still red and looks terrible! Thing with red is that its the worse colour for showing up the stone chips as well......

Yeah that is the thing that appeals alot about Zedworld, it gets done quickly and it warranted, but im really keen on getting involved with this and the rebuild is most appealing as its a new engine, DaveZX has the bottom end already sorted he's selling atm so might jump on that before he weighs it in :thumbup1:

LMAO, you will still be the Daddy in Norwich dude, im originally from Somerset and I literally don't think i've ever seen one anywhere round my way!

LOL @ Eggs. nice to have another 300 round these ways, shame its not running, PM me if you ever need anything, i do have a personal mechanic on tap that does some amazing work on 300zx's, and he comes out our way QUITE alot..

mrs house looks lovely. BTW porsche (droooooooooooooool)

Nice one, cheers for the offer man I will more than likely take you up on that when the only tool that looks useful to me is the hammer! P.S. Mrs parents

get the engine out, send it off to jimmer for a rebuild, while the engine is getting rebuilt get the engine bay cleaned and sprayed, simples.

Cheers guys,

They are nice wheels aren't they, i've never seen them before and give it a good stance at the rear. They need a bit of a refurb as the lacquer and paint is peeling and some have been curbed and whilst unloading I noticed the front tyres touch the plastic arch liner when you have turned the wheel just a fraction. They are a '40' profile though so will opt for something smaller next time or reposition the liner.

Welcome Eggs - and good luck with your purchase mate! I saw this car in the flesh at a Zedworld meet a couple of years back and it looked a tidy example....

.....so you're working in Beaconsfield for a while? I'm only a few miles away in Great Missenden - in fact I do my food shopping in Sainsbury's Beaconsfield so if you're ever about, do to let me know if you want to meet up!!

Richard:cool3:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Thanks mate, yeah doing up a house for a friend which will take till after new year. Cuppa at Starbucks next time your shopping?

Congrats on the car bud , this was one of the cars that inspired me to respray mine blue , always thought it looked stunning , i didn,t realise the lump was shot though !

If your quite mechanicly minded , pulling the lump isn,t as bad as it looks , just take lots of pics, box and label everything else ! lol.

There,s so much crap that can be junked while your doing an engine swap and so much that probably needs replacing as well, pipes , wiring connectors just to start with but once they,re done , they,re done !

Happy zedding :dance::dance:

Hollowpoint has a TT engine that is a known good runner out of "the wasp" i think he wanted about 400 for it, there is a thread in the sale section, was only a few days ago.

It's broken now :D As in down into parts, but thanks for the advert :D

Thanks mate, had a good look at yours at Zedworld at the weekend, love the engine bay and the very cool front bumper!

I met vodkashots the other night and he said the same as you in regard to pulling the lump not being as bad as it looks. He also gave me a quick run through of what sequence to remove things and what everything was. I've been reading alot of general engine removal guides and have a video series on engine removal/rebuilding/replacing and that says the same as you with labelling everything and taking photos. Thats basically what I planned as i've had it before when you dismantle something its all fresh in your head, then go back to it a week or more later and you just think :turned:

What do you recommend junking? EGR valve?

A problem vodkashots also thought of with mine is that because it has an old skool style Japanese setup, its missing various things like the MAF which means part of the loom may be missing, it might have a different loom etc so if I go back to original as Jeff has suggested that might need replacing.

Im going to pull it out then strip it and see the extent of the damage before I make any decisions anyway!

Yeah some clever dick who rebuilt heaps of motorbikes within a week pulled his Z apart without labelling anything.

because he had another complete one there he was going to swap everything over from.

Then that one had to go because of having to move so i had 2 days to strip the other car...

For 16 months i've had a big pile of parts, it's almost a car now...

So yes, label EVERYTHING lol

This is what I call 'learning by other peoples mistakes'! Thank-you!

Nice one bud, saw this at Zedworld when I was there a few weeks ago. Good looking shorty

I don't know what you guys have to pass in the way of emission laws, but reading about people running decat etc im guessing you're fine, in that case ditch EGR and AIV's definately. just take the egr pipes from the exhaust mani and intake plenum, cut the pipes off them and weld them shut with a mig. you can buy delete kits but not much point. aiv's are in the back of the wheel arch under a guard cover (closest to rear of car)

If you are feeling more adventurous and depending on how cold it gets there, somebody local can probably better advise on this, delete the throttle body water cooling system from under the plenum, they perish and you have to buy the special pre bent hose kit from nissan which aint cheap, alot of write ups on this will talk about running a bit of 8mm hose from point A - B... but i took the heater pipes off the back of the motor and got them brazed shut.

Also don't do what my clever mate did when helping me work on my car, and this is apparently quite common, is plug the windscreen squirter hose onto the engine thinking it is a vaccum line, very easy to do when you find the extra hose and you look around, without the bonnet there and having deleted the AIV's it was a... oh that must go here!

Then it snapped 4 rods.

On that bombshell.

Good luck. :santa:

In Maungaturoto, its one of those blink and you miss it towns it's on the road out to dargaville.

Grew up in Auckland though

I've blinked and missed Dargaville a million times driving between Paihia and Auckland, let alone Maungaturoto. I did spend one new years eve in Auckland with a bunch from Kaiwaka who paid for all my drinks and then when we moved to Snells Beach/Algies Bay I was playing football for Warkworth and we played a lot of games up in Wellsford :D
