evening All,

As most of you know ive only very recently purchased m 1990 Z32 Uk Manual TT.

After noticing a strange kind of chirping sound (LOL not the dump valves before someone says :tt2:) it happens worse when cold and goes after 3000 revs.

Now it sounds a bit like air escaping or fluttering through a pipe etc, but i dont seem to have any compression issues best i can tell and almost completely goes when the engine is warm......

Anything to worry about do you think??

Second thing is, im about to do an oil change so i thought id jack her up and see what size sump nut etc and a general whats what....

I had previously noticed an oil smell but thought it was from where oil had leaked out of the dipstick when id driven it from where i bought it and the dipstick musnt have been in properly as it hasnt come out since.

I havent lost oil since i topped it up so i didnt think anything of it.

Once under the car the underside of the gearbox and all rounf the oil filter is CAKED and i mean caked in fresh oil........ VERY concerned. Especially as like i say im not losing any.

I tried the filter and its more than hand tight as well.

Any ideas lads as im confused.

Cheers

James

shine a torch up there either the rocker covers have gone VERY common, or it could be a oil feed line from the turbo. also worth checking your power seering fluid level. a littl eoil can go along way...... i have have the same issue and im pretty certain without pulling the block i will be chasing it around forever. if you can clena it all off then get it running see where it comes from...

After my first oil and filter change today i think ive found where shes bleeding from.

Its the left bank Rocker cover, but right at the back where you cant really see let alone get to lol :(

Im sure they designed this engine bay to be worked on by 10 year olds LOL....

I guess that Japanese mechanics have very small hands mate......:surrender:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

The chirping sounds like the fan belt slipping slightly - both my zeds did this and as the battery charges up theres less drag on the alternator to cause the slip.

The Rushing sound, seems exactly like a fault I had on a 3 litre supra, turned out it was the head gasket although it never gave any other symptoms other than the noise. Mine also went as the car warmed up. I guess what had happened was a slight leak from a cylinder to a waterway letting air into the water. Guess it warming up maybe sealed the gap?
