I could be wrong, but it may be an mot failure.......im sure someone will correct me if im wrong :)

The tread of the tyre is not allowed to stick out further than the wheel arch

correct and yes it will be an mot failure..... either roll the arch or bring them in a touch.

although illegal it is not an MOT failure!

My mate runs a garage and is a mot tester and it is a mot failure.

Just going on what i had been told.

Why would one place fail it another not?. I would of thought it either is or isnt.

misunderstanding!

theres nothing you can fail it on - its not checked on the MOT nor is there a reason for rejection.

now its all computerised there should be no way of failing it unless there is actually a reason for rejection on the VTS computer

Weather its an m.o.t failure or not where i take my motors there is no such thing as fail..... ay ay....

What i mean is they only fail cars on major things... like many places fail cars on a bloody bulb for god sake, if you tyre has wire shooting out all over the place or a ball joint is ready to break apart then obviously its gonna fail... im saying its not OTT......

If its not in the test then it is not a failure but the other point is that if a car is setup illegally and the garage/ tester has knowledge of this then should they not remind the customer about this (even if the customer knows) so that it has clearly been stated to the customer to avoid any negative comaback as 99% of the time if someone will get pulled up for driving a car like that they will say. "My garage said it was ok so I continued to drive like that" this would not be fair on the garage or its employees. Same goes for illegal number plates another commom one that occurs and is often overlooked.

Any garage with a half decent reputation would take interest in the customers and theircars and mention something they know to be illegal. Either way the customer will value this they may not change anything but will leave feeling the garage is really looking out for them and is interested in them and their car so.... repeat business.

yea, definately. If there is no reason for rejection but you know something is not right then you should put an advisory on the vehicle.

most illegal plates would be an MOT failure (if fitted at time of test!!)

wow i started something here 2 pages ...

only said it looks like there sticking out a little
