Hi,

I thought that my battery was on the way out as I have had difficulty starting my Z for the past 4 to 5 days but I think it may be the starter or more specifically the soleniod. Some times when trying to start I just get a tick tick tick sound from the starter, but if I turn the key all the way back and try again it will start(without waiting as you do with a flat battery).

Anyone got any idea, it doesn't always do it either.

Cheers

Check/Replace the (blue) starter-relais which is in the fender.

I'm not sure on which side you can find it in UK-spec cars, but for Euro/US-specs it is in the fender on the drivers-side next to the AIV.

Easiest to access when you remove the wheel and remove the plastic in the wheel-house/arch

I had this on my unfaithful Lancia once, same thing exactly, called out the RACoons or whas it the yellow erics? Anyway, it turned out to be a loose connection on the starter. Pushed it back on firmly and waaassssuuupppp...sorted!

I would suggest checking the connections to the starter/solenoid etc. make sure that they are seated firmly or whip 'em off and check for corrosion. As with so much of the Z's wiring...LOL!

Later mate, hope you sort it!

I've got the same problem, when trying to start all I get is the constant ticking. I think my battery is on the way out cos I've not started my car for about 3 months and after charging it its still low on the old volts!

I'll get a new one tomorrow clean the connectors and check the starter relay...if it's not raining!! :)
