LOL - following on from Allan's thread about ingrown whiskers I thought I'd ask where we stand on this topic.....

Whilst I have always maintained good oral hygiene with brushing, flossing and Listerine; my teeth have always been more ivory than white. I have never smoked but years of rich/spicy food and wine/beer have obviously not helped.

I have seen my dentist about it and signed up for the whitening treatment (I won't try the cheap DIY kits you can buy on the 'net!!) - followed up with a new crown and possibly a veneer or two if necessary.

So am I being too girly-vain, suffering from a mid-life crisis or is it acceptable.....??

Richard:biggrin:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I'm currently deciding between having similar treatments or taking a year out. Travelling is more appealing if i'm honest lol.

PM on its way.....:lol::lol:

lol, behave!

I would love my teeth to be whiter, i do smoke, dont drink and sometimes clean my teeth more than twice a day and use cordisyl (sp?) mouthwash, but cant warrant spending thousands at the dentist, when my zed needs new shoes lol

And a new coat:thumbup:

True lol, the weather has been against me, dare i say it will be painted in time for next years JAE

Unfortunately Rich, I'd say you're suffering a little 'Hollywood Syndrome'. All those lifestyle magazines with pictures of celebs with whiter than white teeth, not too mention everyone on TV. Is it any wonder we're all paranoid about having normal teeth, when all these celebs actually have a mouth of small stumps with veneers attached.

If you've always felt self conscious about your smile, then definitely - get it done. But I know for a fact, when I met you, I didn't think: "Hey up, here comes Wurzel Gummage"! As I often have to remind my missus ( who constantly bangs on about teeth whitening, breast implants, lipo-suction etc ); she looks bloody great! If you cave-in to one insecurity then where does it stop? I mean; you're a bit of a short-arse (LOL), so are you going to sleep on a rack to stretch yourself out? Or what about a Rooney-esque hair transplant?

Whatever you do mate, don't go spending a fortune, you look perfectly fine to me (in a totally plutonic sense, of course).

Corsodyl actually stains your teeth ! Read the instructions/warnings on the bottle. If you don't actually need it, eg for gingivitis etc, then you are probably better off using a 'normal' mouthwash like Listerine.

Mouthwash will not whiten teeth, I never use it.

Some peoples teeth will never go white, I am lucky as on my dentists chart my colour of teeth was about 5th from perfect, he his happy with me and I even got a lolly!!

All you need is a simple brush and something abrasive like arm and hammer toothpaste, the gritty stuff and clean your teeth for a good 5 mins twice a day, 3 if you like.

The bleach kits, I have used them and there is nothing wrong with giving it a go, but mine are fine with just tooth paste.

Get some bicarbonate of soda and use this with toothpaste is another option.

If all this fails to lighten them then expensive cosmetic work is the only way. Now that's enough girlie vain talk, hope other more butch clubs don't view our site that often :winkiss:

Crest whitening strips get them on ebay my dentist put me onto them get the supreme ones nothing touches them.

I know what you're saying Leo - and maybe you're partially right.....

....but I have always been a bit vain - although never insecure. Yes I am a little lacking in stature and I have lost a lot of hair (hence the number-1 cut), but I do suffer a bit from OCD when it comes to personal grooming. Hence the teeth thing.

But I'll not be spending a fortune - I have had a crown on my left front incisor for 23 years (cycling accident) and a small filling in the corner of my right front one. Both are looking tired now and are past their best - hence the new crown and a veneer to replace the filling (which needs renewing every year/18 months). So as I'm replacing them anyway, I thought I'd have a "tidy up" the whole lot should cost me in the region of £800. I'm not going down the whole Hollywood route spending £££££s.......:cool2:
