Okay , my car is up on blocks for the winter ( so the tyres are not going to get flat spotted) i have waxed the living daylights out of the paintwork and tucked it up under a breathable but waterproof car cover, i will be attending to a few odd jobs over the off road period but should i change the engine oil now or wait until the summer months when it goes back on the road, same question for the brake pads front and rear, likewise is their anything else i should do to safely store up for the period ( i have also brimmed the tank and added storage stabiliser)

Its not just a car mate its our pride and joy:slap:

Seriously mate Winter driving is very sore on any car so if you can, drive a euro box during Winter and look after your zed.

Ah, a man with no sentiment whatsoever. It's a good job not everyone is as cold and clinical as you CoolQ! Otherwise it would feel like winter everyday! Only kidding :tt2:

If I was storing my car for winter, I wouldn't go to such lengths as removing the wheels, but I would have put some extra air in them to keep their shape (although I should add, I've never flat spotted a tyre from lack of use, even without this method). If you want to change brakes and oil, then do it after the winter - if you're not using the car,why does it need fresh consumables?

Don't leave the handbrake on either - although this is unlikely if you've put it on blocks.

my daily driver is a company car so i get to keep the Z for the weekends only ( and dry ones at that ) even still i would never enjoy 300 + BHP via rear wheels via an auto box in the snow, ice , wet weather etc using it would undoubtedly end in damage both to me and my beloved charriot

winter tyres people...... fitted quite a few over the years are the grip is amazing. snow/tyres too are incredible.

some of you need to relaaaaaaaaax :-) there 20 yr old nissans for god sake :-) dont take them too seriously. even if you do break it, INSURANCE ;-)

Theres more important things to worry about.. Q

I take it this is being stored outdoors? Is it really worth bothering parking it up outdoors? In my experience cars rot and deteriorate quickly when left parked up outside, maybe better off using it and just keeping it well cleaned. Oh and your tyres won't flat spot from being parked.

If you are going to do this then definitely do the maintenance work after getting it back on the road, and be sure to get it really hot before draining the oil, it will accumulate condensation in the engine.

lol 20 year old Nissans and salt on the roads arent a great combination, as many on here have found out..

Thats the main reason mine is parked up for the winter

i bought my 1st zed when it was snowing, had to drive it back 90 miles back, some of which in a blizzard. had to leave it parked up for a week due to more heavy snow.

madness when i think back on it, but as soon as the snow stopped, i had 4 people push me out while i wheelspun/slid onto the tyre track of visable road, wasnt to bad when i got to a main road, but as i slid back into a parking space i did walk away thinking, why did i do that.

sure it would be great to park up for winter, but its the only transport ive got at the moment

All good advice - and a great link posted by Gary....

.....But me? Well, whilst I have a daily drive, I still tax and insure my ZX all year round as I just cannot resist occasionally taking it out on those sunny, cold, dry winter mornings!!

Sure, I leave the ZX (and daily drive) at home on snowy icy days, as I can pinch Julia's 4x4 for that; but I always like to get the ZX out for a blast once a week if possible. Or if weather permits, for my New Year jaunt to Cornwall.....

Richard:flowers:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Not sure i would leave it up on axle stands for too long. I say this only as I have left my 2nd Z / breaker on axle stands at the rear for several months. The fronts on ramps. The result was stress cracks on the rear lights and massive stress cracks on the rear centre panel ! The sills are in fariness totally fooked ( too many winters in the UK) so the structure of the car is probably questionable. However I wonder about weight distribution over a smaller area not designed to take the weight long term? rather than over larger area of rear tyres and suspension designed for the job. I'd stick a set of old wheels / tyres on it. Got to agree with keepin it off the road over winter, except on those nice days- mine maybe 20 years old but when i compare it to my breaker its like looking at 15 years of difference!

Andy mine is on wooden blocks 12 " square at the front placed under the chassis rails and at the rear , under the subframe

i have been thinking a lot about this over the past few weeks this is the first zed ive owned and all this talk of rust and salt is a worry tbh at the moment its a rust free uk auto tt and i want to try and keep it that way i dont have a garage to keep the car in all winter and ive heard some bad storys about keeping the car outside and under a cover for long periods any advise to keep the dreaded rot at bay? i regularly clean the sill traps with wd40 and wash it whenever i can anything else to watch out for?

Parking the car up outside for winter is no good..keep it started even if its only every Saturday when you get a chance and reverse it back and forward to free the brakes and stop the discs rusting and wash / wax regularly .If its laid up indoors make sure its dry under the cover or itll rust too!Either that or just use it if you wash and hose the arches/underside regular to clean mud/salt itll be ok.I just spent the morning today fitting mudflaps and the afternoon spraying waxoil under my winter weapon ready for the snow/slush/grit.. bring it on! :DPicturesfromcampuntodigger02022.jpg
