Hi, i looking for advice on whether the uk spec tt engine used different cams to a jap spec motor. And also are auto turbos ok to run on a manual set up without any mods. Thanks in advance.

pretty sure the engines ar ethe same its mostly just trim differences. the cams and turbs are differnt on an auto, however certainly with the tubs they are so simular you wouldnt notice any difference. they will spool up a tiny bit quicker, and produce a tiny bit less power. not enough to make a flying difference on the road though.

thanks. How can i tell what cams auto or manual i've got then as the engines history is non existant. Cheers

Are you planning on stripping the engine down anyway?

Did you get the turbos seperately from another engine? I.E if the turbos are from an auto, then the engine is also likely to be from an auto (although not 100% definite, but if there were no other modifications I'd be reasonably confident)

Do you have any details about the donor car for the engine? Would it be possible to get some chassis details to check?

If you are planning on stripping the engine, then someone like Zedworld would probably be able to show you the difference.

I may be wrong, but I would guess it wouldn't make a fat lot of difference what turbo/camshaft combination you used. Turbos = fun. End of.

hi, thank for some quick replies, i will become a member on here when i get round to it. Whats i've got is a manual uk which has a seized bottom end so i've bought a running engine from a manually converted car with unknown turbos i.e auto or manual, and i.ve also bought a tt manual engine for spares which i will get running but at the moment it's out with my uk engine and in with the runner but if i need to transfer cams across from the uk engine i'd rather do it whilst the engine is out. Hope thats doesnt spin anyone out that reads it. Ta.

The turbos should have a marking which is different between the auto and manual turbos I believe. If you tell Yowser the number, he'll probably be able to tell you who made it, what he had for lunch that day and what name his dog was called. He's good with things like that!

Ultimately it won't make a huge difference either way, as said before.

 So true with Yowser

Not really a solid answer but does the balance bar have a large pipe coming off the end on the drivers side? If it does then it might be a manual engine as the manual has a clutch booster, the auto doesn't.

As I said, it only gives you a rough idea as the balance bar could easily have been changed.

Lol at the Yowser comment, and he is the man to ask.
