Battery was fine for ages, until friday.

I was in the car messing with the stereo and doing a bit of cleaning, the stereo went dead and the aerial stopped half way down. So i check the battery, its reading 9V. We were going on hols that afternoon so I disconnected the negative and we came back yesterday. I charge the battery up, its great, engine fires first turn. Let it run for a bit, stopped it, 5 mins later started again fine.

Come to it this morning to put the stereo presets back in. totally dead, no stereo, turn the key to on, no dah lights, nothing. Check battery, reading 2V.

Whats going on here!? Im no expert on electricals but id say something is draining the battery, just like id left the lights on or something, but I didnt. Id find it strange if the battery was dead cos it stayed up for ages before. I know the alternator is fine, cos the power is fine when the engine is running and its never had any problems.

Its not the first time this has happened either. A while back the car had been sitting against a tree in the corner for 6 months, the battery was low, which is understandable, so I charged it, moved the car, washed n waxed it, and it sat there, few days later me dads m8 was over and he wanted to see it running. The battery had gone dead, so I swapped the battery for a known good battery, it started, but the next day that was dead too. But I had charged the origonal one and put that on and it didnt go dead.

batteries don't last long in a Z32, because of the (extreme) heat under the bonnet.

Just buy a new battery and you'll be fine for another 2-3 years
