i fitted my new japspeed rad the other weekend and after its first two drives, ive noticed to issues. firstly i seem to loose about 1/4 of a litre of coolant both times, toppd it up the first time. :s can i assume that given that im not experiencing any drips.( i put a piece of noteboard paper under the car to check over night no green dots) that was both running and cold. can i assume that im not leaking? my thoerys are either

: im still getting air out the system, ive only covered about 30 miles so far, with the temp set on max.

: or that its over flowing into the emptied expansion bottle and not coming back. (i havent actually checked to see wether its gone green in there.)

my other issue is i refitted the fan shroud ina short of fashion as it no longer fits, there are only two mounts on the japspeed. and its slightly wider so the shroud wont strecth across :( so it drops and hits the fan making a noise and melting the shroud and blades, not cool. what have others done about this??

do i even need it now ive got the bigger rad?

Could be trapped air

i've an uprated rad too and took a bit of time after i flushed out the old one to get most of the air out.

you could have a slight leak but that its only apparent at temp and the coolent is just evaporating

-hense no visable drips.

As for as your shroud goes - i'd dump it as the uprated rad should keep you cool enough.

anyone else cheers for that jaikai, gguess i just keep an eye on the top up for now

i have always topped rads up on a hill so the front is higher than the rear so that the air should bleed out of the system.

Where are you filling to?-just below the neck and fins covered is fine, any more,it will chuck it out.

Bin the shroud!:hammer:

lol fan shroud will be er modified then in that case... for cosmetic reasons. im fillin it to bottom of the filler neck. it drops about half an inch from that.

I have fitted same rad mate, the only issue i had withe shroud is that I had to cut a little section out so the belt would not hit it!

Apart from snapping the shroud in half:blushing: when fitting it every other aspect ok.

Run the engine with the heater on full so it opens the valve in the heater matrix, you would have lost a bit of water to the matrix when warmed up, have you still got your overflow tank connected?

I didnt reconnect mine after the new engine went in and was losing the same amount each day now reconnected and not losing a drop.

Did not relise there was a header / overflow tank on these cars

Yes Dave, inside the bumper, pass side. The little overflow pipe under the rad cap runs down to the tank, you should see the filler cap just behind the headlight.

The coolant is dumped under pressure into the tank and drawn back under vacuum as the system needs it.

The tank has a cold and hot depth marks on the dipstick, coolant should be up to one of these marks depending on hot or cold as the overflow pipe hose draws/fills to the bottom of the tank.

Ah mine must be removed or missing as the overflow tube on the old rad ran down the side and dangled out of the bottom just like it is now with the new rad.

well rather naughtilty i dint bother to top it up yesterday ive driven about 15 miles on it and its no different. hrm. the expansion tank howevr is accumilating water, its got a reading in there now albiet low so i think as you suggest groover tahts where its going.

The rad cap supplied with alloy rads are generally not as good at sealing as the Nissan one, if you used the one with the rad swap it for the Niissan one.

:blushing::no:I never removed mine before I binned it!

Im using an uprated rad cap on my Japspeed and always have from the start... Still got the original cap that came supplied with it... My water level is the same, just above the fins...

Topped it up the first time I had it and came to look at it the next day and again the water level had dropped to just above the fins...

Had this radiator for 2 month now... Haven't topped it up since, checked it yesterday and it's still above the fins... Z is my daily drive, it gets up to temp good and no problems!!!

If you look down and can't see any water then you got problems!!! Obviously when the water warms up it expands...
